NSAIDs and other anti inflammatory med... Are you allowed?

Recommended Posts

At almost one year out, I am experiencing joint pain... Directly after surgery, I was told NOT to take Aleve, Motrin or other NSAIDs... Only take Tylenol to prevent ulcers... Have any of you been told that is a "forever" rule or just while healing? Tylenol doesn't really help with joint pain for me.

I emailed my bariatric surgeons office and was told to check with my primary doc... But she is not a Bariatric doc and immediately suggested Motrin and Aleve and was not aware I had been told not to take them previously ... Anyone using these pain relievers without problems?

I have RA and fibro. My bari doc took me off the anti-inflammatory I was taking but left me on the steroids. They were worried that it would cause ulcers in my pouch long term. Told me to take Tylenol instead of Advil or Aleve.

There's an autoimmune thread on this forum and the posters to that thread may be able to help as well.

I was told no NSAIDS also. But my surgeon said you have to weigh risks vs. benefits as with anything. If NSAIDs are the only thing that work, it would be okay for me to take them occassionally. But high doses or taking frequently can lead to ulcers, so we have to be careful. I have taken ibuprofen twice in 3 months for severe headaches (but I only took 400 mg each time).

If you really need NSaids but cant take them orally..you can go to a hospital ER or medical clinic and ask for somthing called : Toredol..Its an anti inflammatory injection you can get prescribed. I had the injection for a week on every second day. Just ask your pcp if he can wrote you a script for it..to get it in the hoapit

NSAIDS are a no-no right after surgery because they can increase stomach bleeding risk and ulcers. As for further down the road, taking them in moderation is probably fine unless you have a peptic ulcer history. I have taken ibuprophen in lower doses than I used to with food and have tolerated it just fine.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
