Personal Diet Letter

Recommended Posts

Did anyone have to write a letter to their surgeon, explaining why they want to have the surgery? I'm not sure if this is a requirement from my surgeon, or my insurance, or maybe it's not a requirement from insurance but my surgeon submits the letter with all of the paperwork for good measure...

Anywho, just wondering if anyone else had to do this, and if so, how personal you got?

Shan:)

I had to write a letter to submit to my insurance. I started it off with my name, age, weight and the statement that I was morbidly obese. I did get somewhat personal, meaning I explained my limitations and how it effected me day to day.

I listed all my efforts throughout the years, the time, money and energy spent and my desire to be ablet o finally find a tool to help me succeed. I explained that I understood that this was a permanant procedure, uncompromising and life-long, and that I was ready and willing to embrace the changes necessary. My coordinator told me it was heartfelt and clearly showed my need and desire for approval for surgery.

I did not have any co-morbidities, but I would detail them and how your quality of life is deminished by these weight related issues.

Good luck!

I did. It was part of my "homework" after my 1st Nut visit.

I wrote one for good measure, before I knew I would need it. It was kind of cathartic to put into words everything that has lead me to this place. It is needed for my insurance, and my surgeon learned more about me and my struggles from it. ( I submitted it on my first visit) I detailed my past, my family (briefly) and what I have tried for weight loss. I also explained where I am currently at physically, and how my weight effects me. I ended by telling what I hope to achieve with the surgery, and that I hoped I would be considered and approved.

Thanks, I just wrote it up... It was honest and heartfelt, so hopefully it's what they are looking for:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
