passed out for the second time since surgery

Recommended Posts

I went to the ER last night. I have been getting dizzy spells randomly since surgery and have passed out as well. Yesterday I got up to go to the bathroom and passed out on my way back to bed. They checked my blood pressure, sugar, the whole nine yards and came up with nothing other than to follow up with my PCP. Is anyone else experiencing similar symptoms after surgery?

I just seems to be one of those things around here that no one gets answers too.

I don't pass out but get dizzy spells fell into a wall a month ago and got a knot on my head.

Blood work fine drink 90+ oz a day...

I see lots of people here with the same problem...

I do drink an electrolyte drink daily. Meh helps a bit... I think....

I had this experience 1 time but it was due to a drop in my blood pressure due to a little dehydration. now I'm obsessed with having a bottle a Water or Gatorade around me..... New addiction..... Make sure your getting in a lot of fluids. :P

I do the 5:2 fast and sometimes feel dizzy when I stand up on my fast days (500 calories/day). Although that was more at the very beginning than now.

I don't know if its fast related for everyone, I've had them starting about 4 months out.

It's one of those curiosities I notice a lot around here from people that have the sleeve in common but not necessarily the same post op diets or philosophy...

Ive nearly passed out twice since the surgery. Once was after i broke my toe, i think i was in shock after i took my shoe off and found out my toe was mangled. The second time was last night in my friends kitchen. Just got really really dizzy, my ears were ringing and my vision got really blurry. I sat down and was fine.

That's what happens to me when I don't eat carbs. I have hypoglycemia and if I don't eat every 2-3 hours I get very dizzy and sure enough my blood sugar is around 49.

It's happening to both my husband and to me 3 weeks post op. if we get up suddenly we are almost guaranteed to get a dizzy spell. I thought it was because of the lower calories. My bloodwork last week showed no reasons for it.

The dizziness often happens to me, it has for years. Prior to surgery I did collapse. Mine is due to low hemoglobin and very low ferritin counts. I get Iron infusions, and it helps. Iron and blood problems are not very common in men, due to you not losing blood during menstruation, but I would have them check your levels, you might be losing blood a different way. Good luck, I know it isn't fun to feel that way.

This has happened to me as well. Something else that drives me crazy......I have had a hard time walking straight!!! It's a good thing I don't drink much! If I had to walk a straight line they would put me in the pokey!! Don't know why this happens it was worse early on but I still have days where I am tripping over myself!

I get dizzy a lot too. I've had blood work done and everything is fine. I personally think it has to do with eating such low calories and low carb.....especially the low carb.

Join the club... i get dizzy spells...never really passed out...but i notice my spells are mostly related to sudden posture changes...like standing up too quickly or bending down to pick something up... will have a word with my doc ...lets see what he says... and my blood work is spotless too ...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
