i'm an exercise-infomercial junkie!

Recommended Posts

While trying to figure out how to take the airstopperthingy out of my core secrets ball to add more air to it - i clicked upon an informercial for Fluidity.

I must be an advertisers dream come true! I swear it took seconds to suck me into this infomerical and here i am with another screen up about to buy it!

I think i'm getting out of the pamered chef biz and i want to transform my loft into a functional space to work out in. I have an elliptical that i finally use and now i'm thinking of adding this bar-thing. eventually i want to go back to karate and get one of the kick bags.

my Dh is going to kill me!! =)

Yes, I admit it! Infomercials are addictive. The Thigh Master, the Ab Roller, the Cardio Glide, Greer Childers' BodyFlex, a dozen different video workouts… I’m so gullible when it comes to the search for something that'll make working out A) easy & :) fun!! :)

DH & I actually bought a Body By Jake Gravity Force Trainer in January for strength training at home! We already have a treadmill for cardio. The sad, sad, sad thing is that we were pumped when ordering this thing, but have only now (mid-April) got around to unpacking it. (The return-by-date has passed & the plastic shell has a sizable crack – doesn’t it just figure! :straight) He thinks it’s gonna be great. I think (at 5’2”) I’m gonna be to short to really use it. We shall see…

Oh that is too funny! I too love to watch the infomercials on all the wieght loss gimmicks. I've ordered a few of them in the past, only to sell them in garage sales later. lol. I had the thighmaster, remember that one? The Jane Fonda treadmill, the ab roller, gosh, I can't even remember all the ones I've had.

Now I just head to the gym .5 miles away from my house, open 24/7 and do a really good workout. But I still watch those infomercials!

I too get all wrapped up with these infomercials! Weather it be Tony Little Gazelle <which I bought> ot even the new Leg magic machine <rolling eyes>

I have had ten hip surgeries... So anything that will help strngthen my legs I always feel is a bonus. But when it is out of the box, and I try it out, I realize that my hips wont flex as they should... I moan and groan, yet I still watch those damn infomercials! at least my daughter gets use out of them!

How many times have I watched "HIP HOP ABS"? I'm going to end up ordering it soon, I know.

I work out nearly every day at the a fitness center at work. I don't need Hip Hop Abs, I can't dance very well because of two left feet and I've got Tae Bo tapes galore that I never use....

But still I watch....I can't turn away.

The Gazelle! My parents bought that years ago when I lived in the house, I love that thing. Just reminded me they said I could have it now. I don't think it ever helped in weight loss, but it was a fun toy.

I bought the Bean after a recommendation I found here, It was neat.. served it's purpose in helping the pain in my back.. then one of my cats popped it. I have NO CLUE how, it's a tough little thing. Woke up 2 days ago and it was deflated in the middle of the living room and the cats sleeping on it.

I tried the ab-roller too years ago, didn't do squat. I have a gym at work that has a lot of real machines.. and it's for free!

I totally want to know how the Fluidity bar is.. Let me know when you get it. .. It seemed a little expensive for what it was.. I"m going to see if my husband can mount a wall bar in the basement for me. I do think I'm going to get the total gym though... any one out there tried one of those? I want to get the Elite from QVC.. tomarrow is the last day for the low price though...

Ha! I'd never seen that one before -- until last night! :P Too funny! I stopped to watch (and made DH watch) BECAUSE you mentioned it. Now that one...I could never do that. A) I have no coordination whatsoever, and :) I'm not physically fit enough! :) But he sure is full of pep!

We've bought both the Total Gym (3 years ago) & the Gazelle (10 years ago) off of QVC.

(Our Gazelle came busted from the manufacturer, so it was sent back -- but it was fun to use!)

I was excited about the Total Gym because I’d used something similar in physical therapy after hurting my knee. It was easy to use & great for stretching, but we didn’t keep it long enough (3+ weeks) for either of us to see any results from the “workout” routine. And ours didn’t come with the large, square, padded foot platform. (I didn’t realize you had to buy it separately & QVC didn’t carry it anyhow.) I felt insecure balancing on what amounted to a “toe bar” while laying flat on my back – like my foot could slip off & I’d do some damage. Someone else might not have that sensation, but I was used to a foot platform… We sent it back after about 25 days (huge & heavy, FYI). The problem: you need ROOM for that thing!! Room we just don’t have. It is HUGE!! Sure, you can “tuck it up” for storage, but it has to be deployed to actually USE it! We just couldn’t fit it anywhere practical!

I’d go to a athletic equipment store & check it out for size (literally – will it fit where you need it?!?) before buying it on QVC, which had the best price when we bought it.

Suzanne-

He is full of pep! Your poor DH having to sit through it!

I've watched the entire infomercial so many times I can't count. I know I'm going to cave and buy it.

Zanie.. Thanks for you advice about the total Gym. That's exactly what my husband suggested... I'm pretty sure it would fit, we have a 'home gym' in the basement that we can squeeze it into (even if it means getting rid of some of the kids play area :-). I think I will be ordering it, I have to get myself into some sort of fitness routine now so that I don't bellyache about it post-op. (I'm tentatively looking at a June 13th surgery date)... Everyone talks about how increasing muscle will increase metabolism, so I'm stoked :-)

Valintine- I would recommend an elliptical because it's super quite, and can be a full body work out. It's also simple to use. I would recommend that you get the best one you can possibly afford because quality varies greatly by model, and you're less likely to use a rickety/wobbly peice of equipment as regularly as you are a good sturdy machine. Everyone's different though.. good luck.

My surgeon recommended an elliptical trainer and a treadmill as his two choices if we were going to spend money on home equipment. (We had a treadmill & recumbent bike already, and DH wanted to add strength training – thus the Gravity Force Trainer.) Good elliptical machines can be very pricey!

Try http://freecycle.org/ if your area has a “chapter” (they’re global). The concept is rather than throw away or bother with eBay/garage sales, people post things (online) onto FreeCycle that they no longer want. You almost always have to go pick up the item yourself. And the good stuff goes fast (how we got our recumbent bike)! But – and this is the key – it’s FREE stuff!!!

Yeh, I LOVE free cycle... I'm an addict (to that amongst many other things :-) Our yard looks like the Little Tikes village from all the climbers, slides and playhouses that we got when other people's kids out grew them. Great suggestion, zannie.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
