Almost 7 months post op

Recommended Posts

I will be 7 months post op on 8/31/13 and have lost 66 lbs. so far. I am a little bummed cause I am not losing much. I am battling thyroid issues as well. Had total thyroidectomy 5 years ago and now with the weight loss my levels are all out of wack. I am guessing that probably has a lot to do with it. I have people all the time tell me how great I look but I still see myself as "fat" and I hate that. When will I ever be " normal" or will I ever?

You've lost a little over 9lbs a month on average. That is great! I think once you get down to your goal weight you'll still see yourself as "fat" for awhile...or at least that is what I hear. I have thyroid problems as well, so I can sympathize. Have you had your blood levels drawn to see where you are? Taking the right amount of meds will go a long way in giving you energy to exercise and get things done. Good luck!

Geepers! Two very different points. ONE, 9 pounds a month is an amazing result. Might be good to rejoice in your success!. TWO, perception is all yours. And we all seem to struggle. I've lost 80 pounds and yet I seem the same fat guy in my head. My head does NOT equal reality!

I also had my thyroid removed. Please go to an endocrinologist. My PCP had my meds all messed up for a yr. Finally I went to an endo and she put me on an amount and I stayed there. I have only decreased meds once even though I lost 82 lbs. Best of luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
