STL sleeve scheduled 9/25

Recommended Posts

Congrats and best wishes to you. Having this surgery was the best thing I've ever done!!! Dr. Minkin was not my surgeon but he was the doctor on duty the weekend after my surgery so I met with him a couple times while in the hospital and really liked him. I've heard lots of great things about him. If you have any questions about the experience in Des Peres hospital or questions in general let me know. Good luck!!!

Thanks so much! Sent you a private message. :)

I've been going through Dr Minkin at Des Peres. My paperwork should be submitted for insurance approval tomorrow. Excited to get an answer from insurance company and a surgery date. Ready to get on with my life!

Good luck to you. I had a really bad experience with his office staff and decided to change hospitals. If the staff are rude to you don't take it personally, that's how they are to everyone.

I know a lot of people had a great experience and hopefully you will too.

FYI-I didn't receive your private message you indicated you were sending. Agree that some of the staff weren't too friendly or helpful but most were awesome. I think they recently hired more people so hopefully that helped as I think they are really busy.

I tried to send another message and still don't see it under my conversations tab. Guess the iphone version is kinda buggy. Got my insurance approval today from the insurance company directly. Haven't heard anything from Dr. Minkin's office yet and will cut them some slack for a day or two before I get annoyed with them not calling me. Hope this all goes smoothly!

How did it go with Dr Minkin?

They ended up wanting the actual letter with my approval on it. When they hadn't received it 2 days after I received my copy at home, I faxed it in and they called me back to schedule the same day. Scheduled for April 9. Can't wait to get this going!

I am wondering the same thing too SweetSophia. I have been to the seminar, gotten the green light from my insurance compamy, met with the dietician, psychologist and nurse. This Friday on 4/4 I have my first appointment with Dr. Morales. So glad my insurance didn't require the six month diet because I am ready to get this done! Just wondering how long I have to wait after I see Dr. Morales before my surgery is scheduled.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
