I am self pay too, but my sister and I are starting our journey together - we will be sleeved by the same doctor on the same day, so January ended up being the soonest our schedules could match up. But that is OK, I will wait a few months if it means we are together.

Are you willing to share what doctor you chose and what date? I havnt chosen a doctor yet but I am leaning toward Dr. Garcia and leaning toward Oct 4th as the date. My son is out of school then and he doesn't have any soccer going on that weekend so its a lighter week for me. Just curious if you will be there then. Best wishes! Thanks!

Hang in there girls and run do not walk towards your new life. Had mine done in us because I was lucky that my insurance covered it. But I am 3 months out 79 lbs down and do not regret it at all! Also I was questioning my choice up until they put the mask on me in the OR. It will be worth it! I promise you 159 million billion times. Hands up high five and keep up the good work.

I just booked my flight as well! I'm really nervous to be flying on 9-11. My surgery is the 12th with Dr. Alvarez :-) I am super nervous and excited at the same time. I went Vitamin shopping yesterday for the first time in my life! Also I have to get some kind of Protein Shakes. I have Bariatric Advantage chocolate right now left over from some fad diet I tried at the beginning of the year. I have to start my pre-op on Wednesday and I'm scared to death I won't be able to do it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
