setting my goal to high?

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I'm self pay so I actually don't know who to talk to about this but I'm 5'5" size 24/26 315 lb I'm guesstimating that I'll hopefully be right under 300 on the day of surgery 10/7/13. I'm thinking that I hope to make it to 170 when it's all said and done and be a 12/14. I feel like I'll never be in single digit sizes. Has anyone my size gotten down to like a 8? And if you are a size 8 how much do you weigh?

Hi. I am also 5'5"and 320lbs and size 26/28. I am not having my surgery until January but I can tell you once I do there is no stopping me! I am going to be in a normal BMI range I am not going to be overweight anymore and I will make it down to single digits - I cannot say how much I will weigh though because I have never been that thin before.

Once for a brief moment when I was on Atkins I got down to 170 and was a 12 - that was with doing pilates and swimming 6 days a week.

Don't sell yourself short, when I was sleeved 13 months ago, I started out weighing 354 and on the day of surgery I was 334, I am 5'9"... My goal weight is also 170, and this morning I weighed 189 and I'm still losing weight pretty easily, I wear a size 12 now but I don't see any reason why I won't be a size 10 in few months, so don't be discouraged you are going to do great and if you follow the diet plan and exercise moderately I don't see any reason why you wouldn't get to a size 8 if you want to be!

That's the truth! I have never been less than 200 as an adult! Wouldn't it be nice not to have to look for the sizes on the back of the rack or bottom of the pile at the store?? I can't imagine either, but I know it will happen!! Woo hoo

I'm 4"11- was a size 22 pre surgery. I weighed 248 surgery day BMI of 55ish. I'm now 148.8. My weight loss has slowed, but I am only 15-20lbs from my goal. I initially thought I would be in a 10/12 at my goal weight, but I am currently wearing an 8/10 solidly- even in fancy designer dresses. Don't sell yourself short and know your sleeve can help you get wherever you want to go. That being said- I am having to consciously think about what I am eating and what I need to eat now to lose this last little bit, but- I know I can do it.

I am of a similar plan. I am 5ft 5 and goal right now is 180. I have never been thin, so being a 12/14 would be amazing. I figure my goal can change as I get closer. My dr office set my initial goal to 210 based on 60% excess body weight loss. I do know I do not believe in the bmi as a goal setting tool.

I have been big all my life, the smallest I ever was in high school after starving for months was 170 and I think I wore a 10/11 but that was almost 20 years ago, the transformation you will go thru along the way will be life changing but it also takes time for your mental picture of yourself to catch up with your body, even though I know I wear a 12 in dresses and pants and a large in most shirts, I still find myself going to the larger sizes first I pick up the size I wear and it just looks so small and I think there is no way I can fit in that so take a bigger size to the dressing room and its too big, it just takes a while to get the fat girl image out if your mind.

Sizes run so differently than they used to.. They got smart and yesterday's 12 is now an 8. Good news for us! It's motivating. I am 162 currently and have a 16 year old skirt in size 12, new shorts in 10's, size 8 capris and a stretchy jean skirt in a 6. I am a pear and carry my weight in my extremities, that makes a difference too.

Wellll I'm a 5'5" 207 lb pear. I found an Elle size small top that I loved. Decided to buy it as an inspiration piece. When I got it home and tried it on IT FIT!! A little tighter now that I've washed it but.... It fit! And, I've gotten a lot of compliments!

Oh, and I'm wearing size 16 bottoms.

I know what it's like to doubt, I have weighed over 200 for well over 30 years. Highest was 306. We can do it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
