Hello all! I'm 27, mother of one, been married 6 1/2 years and am morbidly obese. After an incident in the hospital in June I decided that I needed to make changes. I was too scared to do the bypass and felt that the lap band didn't work well, so I decided I wanted to research the sleeve. I found it to be very promising, and am scheduled for the 27th! I'm excited, nervous, and happy, etc all at once!! I can't wait!! Thanks!

I had never heard about the sleeve until I asked my primary if I was a good candidate for a lap band. He sent me to Loyola University's Bariatric Program. One of the requirements was to take a class or watch a video. I watched the 40 minute video on surgical options and found out about the sleeve. Really? They can do THAT? That's when I decided to do the sleeve. Just make the darn thing smaller and yank it out. I am so done with carrying this extra person for a belt. The excitement is building as I progress through the program. Right now I am in week four of the nutritionist's supervised 1100 calorie diet. This support group is an awesome extra bonus, and everyone seems so honest about their individual experience. I am so glad it's here. Good luck with your surgery.

I hadn't heard of it til someone my husband met had told him about the duodenal switch surgery (not common at all) and this was part 1, for those with extreme bmi's. as I looked into it more I found it was exactly what I was looking for! I have to say though, nearly all my doctors still think I should have the bypass, because it has the most research. I know that I've chosen the right surgery, and that's what matters to me :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
