buckeyefan1985 29 Posted August 25, 2013 I just bought my first package of tofu (I bought the firm type) but I don't know how to fix it. I know that what ever it is mixed with it picks up those flavors. Other than that, I'm lost. I will start the purée stage this week and decided now would be a good time to explore new food options. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks.[/quote'] A slow intro is to put it in your puréed vegetables or Proteins a little at a time. It makes things creamy and yummy. A other option is to make egg drop Soup, or the hot and sour Soup recipe I posted, and to put cubes of tofu in there to let them pick up flavors. Some people try dry-frying it, but my first and only shot at that was a disaster, I may have to try again 1 No game reacted to this
A_New_Lily 39 Posted August 25, 2013 I put it in a skillet. It's alright, you really need to google how to prepare it. It's a tricky food, lol.
belladona 153 Posted August 25, 2013 You can slice it and put soy sauce on it, and spray pam in pan and cook both sides. its interesting to say the least, Its probably no way near the yummy dishes you make, I have read your recipes, thanks for posting, but Im sure you will find something to do with it. Good luck and bon apetit. 1 gamergirl reacted to this
buckeyefan1985 29 Posted August 25, 2013 Thanks everyone. I'll check some recipes on how to fix it. I do like the idea of using it with the veggies or Soup.< /p>
ElyQuint 446 Posted August 26, 2013 Tofu can be hard to digest so start small. I would suggest buying silken tofu to start mixing in purees. Def YouTube tofu cooking tutorials. It seems easy but over or under cooking is very common.

I love you ( and tofu) ... I ate it before and after surgery. I like to dry fry mine first.. To dry fry, I cut up my tofu and SLOW fry it with no oil or butter you can use a bit if pam non stick spray.. on a non stick griddle or you can use a cast Iron pan. I fry it on a lower heat to get the moisture out and crisp it up. I buy mine at trader joes (extra firm) Also after you dry fry it you can do different things with it...like marinade in anything (it is tasteless so will soak up any flavor) and stir fry with veggies I like it marinaded sometimes but I will also eat it just straight from the fridge cold after dry frying it. I will grab a piece and dip it into hummus too.
2btrim 129 Posted August 26, 2013 This may sound stupid but I've never eaten Tofu, is it a soy product? I can't do soy, my PCP told me to stay away from soy because my thyroid is on the low end of normal and there are studies that show soy suppresses the thyroid. AmyInOrlando 348 Posted August 26, 2013 For those people with Thyroid issues, or on Thyroid medication. Tofu and other soy products are contraindicated. I'm not saying NEVER eat soy products, but they should be limited. I love edemame, and some Morningstar products, but they can interfere with treatment of hypothyroidism. (Google it, to find out more)

gamergirl 4,610 Posted August 26, 2013 I like Tofu too but damn its an acquired taste and early on new tummies might not like pan fried anything lol I've been having tofu in my Soups for a while and it was so soft, gentle and comforting! It was a lot easier than chewing on a piece of chicken for sure. Worth trying to see how it works I think.
NMJG 1,266 Posted August 26, 2013 I like silken tofu cold with soy sauce or firm tofu served hot in Pasta Sauce (tomato sauces may be too much early on). It's also good heated with a touch of olive oil and herbs, salt and pepper. I love to throw it in Ratatouille. Looking forward to being able to eat that again.
