BJean 16 Posted January 30, 2007 It's great to hear someone be real about the Swift Boat Liars. At last! I think the internet may a big help to us in the next election!

Tired_Old_Man 1 Posted January 30, 2007 :fencing: Condoleeza Rice........ First black women president.... what do you think? She would probably appoint BuSh as (both) Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State.:faint: FOUR MORE YEARS (OF WAR)
BJean 16 Posted January 30, 2007 I find Ms. Rice to be every bit as abrasive as Ms. Clinton. Even more harsh because of her stance on the war. But then, I guess she's just doing as she's told. Knowing that though doesn't make me want to vote for her.

MS_mom_1965 0 Posted January 31, 2007 My DH said he heard on a radio talk show that Obama's mother is white, therefore, he is mixed-race, not African-American. Has anyone else heard this?
BJean 16 Posted January 31, 2007 Maybe someone would like to find a profile on Obama and post all the information people seem to be looking for about the man.
ReneBean 3 Posted January 31, 2007 The man can't help the name that his parents gave him, or the school that they put him in when he was 6. But those things will probably affect his chances at the Presidency - now and in the future. I wish I had more faith in the Sanity of the general public. The world just seems to be getting crazier every day. Maybe we should all pray for basic SANITY for the American public. green 6 Posted February 1, 2007 My DH said he heard on a radio talk show that Obama's mother is white, therefore, he is mixed-race, not African-American. Has anyone else heard this? Yes, this is true and this means that he is in the same boat as most other black Americans; he will be treated as a black man.
BJean 16 Posted February 1, 2007 I doubt if there are many African-Americans in the U.S. now. That is to say, Africans with no mixed blood. I would be interested in seeing a statistic, but I think that they have been intermarrying maybe not as long, but the same way that American Indians and all other races have been in this country. That's part of the reason for the term "melting pot" isn't it?
Tired_Old_Man 1 Posted February 1, 2007 The slave owners had their way with the prettiest of the slaves as did the male sons of the slave owners, so many of the so-called Blacks or Afro-Americans or African-Americans are mixed race. Before I moved from Brooklyn, I lived in an area with a high percentage of Nigerians who were relatively new to the USA and were pure African.

green 6 Posted February 1, 2007 The slave owners had their way with the prettiest of the slaves as did the male sons of the slave owners, so many of the so-called Blacks or Afro-Americans or African-Americans are mixed race. Before I moved from Brooklyn, I lived in an area with a high percentage of Nigerians who were relatively new to the USA and were pure African. Yah, I have read that there was a time in America when folks who had black ancestors buried somewhere in their remote past had to have this documented on their identity papers. These were individuals who looked white but who were not allowed the rights and privileges of living white during America's apartheid past. And TOM is right of course: most African Americans with long, long roots in America are likely to have a greater or lesser amount of European and, perhaps, native American blood as part of their genetic heritage. Indeed, it sometimes true that many white Americans with old roots in this continent may also have an array of interesting genetic material, material that might possibly prove disturbing in some cases to those very white guys themselves. BJean 16 Posted February 1, 2007 Green: When I worked for the Attorney General in Richmond, VA, I was shocked to learn that there were laws around the Commonwealth that said that for legal purposes, anyone with one drop of Negro blood was to be considered a Negro. Boy doesn't THAT rock your world? It did mine. Just think about the implications of that. Holey smokes! One of the issues that the assistant attorneys general were dealing with was red-lining and "white flight" neighborhoods. I had moved there from Oklahomaa where everyone was of mixed blood, or at least most of the population. I never understood about the prejudices that I saw when I moved around the country. Not that there weren't prejudiced bigots in Oklahoma, there sure were, but it was not in a league with some of the other places I've lived. What I've never understood is how one person can look at another person's skin and think that their skin color in someway denotes the morality or goodness or badness in that person.
