drydzynski 35 Posted August 24, 2013 You can have mints as long as they are sugar free and you fully let them dissolve on your tongue.
marfar7 1,533 Posted August 24, 2013 Yes, mints are fine. I asked my dr at my 4 weeks post op visit if I could have gum. He said as long as I don't swallow it. I don't think I've ever (even as a kid) swallowed a pc of gum, so no problem. I chew gum all the time so it was missed that first 4 weeks. It all depends on your dr. Some say absolutely not, some say it's ok. It's like the straw thing (which my dr permits too)
ScottsGirl 106 Posted August 24, 2013 I use TicTacs, they now have one called Powermint. I mix the orange with mint = tasty! They have natural cane sugar but have less than .5 gram per serving! NO GUM as it creates more gas in your stomach. I have a friend (with the vsg) and she swallowed a piece of gum, she experienced a bit of pain, so not a good idea!
