Yes, mints are fine. I asked my dr at my 4 weeks post op visit if I could have gum. He said as long as I don't swallow it. I don't think I've ever (even as a kid) swallowed a pc of gum, so no problem. I chew gum all the time so it was missed that first 4 weeks.

It all depends on your dr. Some say absolutely not, some say it's ok. It's like the straw thing (which my dr permits too)

I use TicTacs, they now have one called Powermint. I mix the orange with mint = tasty! They have natural cane sugar but have less than .5 gram per serving! NO GUM as it creates more gas in your stomach. I have a friend (with the vsg) and she swallowed a piece of gum, she experienced a bit of pain, so not a good idea! :)
