how do you know when to stop eating?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on the 29th of July and am on pureed foods for one more week. I was eating until I got the tell tale cramp but the doc told me not to or I would stretch the sleeve. I measure amounts but hit the cramp long before by designated three ounces are in there. How do you know when to stop?

It is something you just learn. Usually I would get a runny nose, hiccup, sneeze but that happened before I finished eating early on. Then I began to get in tune with my body and I could just tell when it was time to stop or the above would start happening. We want to eat until satisfied not stuffed. You will get the hang of it! Good luck with your journey! :)

It's funny cuz since being banded for almost 4 yrs prior to my revision 5 1/2 weeks ago, my stop signal was always "I got tired of eating". was never really "full", just couldn't eat anymore cuz I didn't want to.

Now, I feel like I've swallowed a plum that sitting right at the top of my stomach. It doesn't hurt, but feels like if I take one more bite I might vomit. So I stop. Haven't vomited yet with the slveev (unlike my frequent vomiting with my band).

Since first getting the band in 2009, I have yet to feel that "Thanksgiving full" I used to feel. It's more like ucomfortableness.

I am exactly the same way. I start to sneeze and the runny nose thing with just a few bits....BUT! I have learned to use it as a signal anyway because I stop and really examine how I am feeling...So I only eat what I can after that....

It is good after a few bites to put your fork down and feel how much is in your sleeve...not literally, but you can feel the fullness if you learn how your sleeve works.....Yours is different then mine and mine yours..So what works for me might not for you...I will tell you one thing though....If you eat too much it will feel awful and you will either want to throw up or sit there with a huge lump on top of your sleeve...It is a good thing to learn now how much you can eat...

If I can only eat one or two ounces and feel that lump in my chest and hiccup, I can stop eating. But if I don't try again after a while, I'll never get all my Protein in. Should I keep trying, or just stop and consider my meal over? This happened to me tonight with baked tilapia.

My nut told me today to eat small meals at multiple intervals in order to make sure I'm meeting my needs. Healthy grazing.

I measure out 2 oz and I keep eating slowly until its gone. We've realized that my husband can hold 4 oz at a time and I can hold 2 so that's how we serve ourselves. I had a tough time with fish and chicken. cheese and Beans are much easier for me right now and we're still having to do two Protein Shakes a day to get all the protein. Hope you're doing well Amy! ((Hugs))

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
