Motorcycle Changes

Recommended Posts

Any motorcycle riders out there? I was sleeved in March. I've lost 105lbs. I'm experiencing something I never thought would happen. The center of gravity has change when I ride my bike. It's a wonderful thing when I'm riding solo but when I have my girlfriend on the back (she weighs about 160lbs) I have a lot of problems holding the bike up going around slow turns and coming to a stop. I'm an experienced rider with 50 years of motorcycling under my belt so it's not a case of the newbies.

I'm not complaining mind you. I'll take the weight loss over a little instability anytime. I'm just a bit surprised of this one change in my life I never expected.

That's exactly what happens when a woman gets pregnant/gives birth. It's amazing how many things are affected by the shift in your weight and your balance. Be careful!! You will find your center again.

Rickster,

I have ridden for over 45 years too. I was heavy very young and did in fact lose weight several times. During the times when I was normal size I did notice it was harder to maintain balance and maintain control over the bike. (mine have always been heavy Harleys). During and advanced riding school taught by biker Leo's, I was taught how to use the bike's momentum in literally throwing the bike from one side to the other in quick responsive changes. With practice it became very easy and second nature. You actually let the bike's weight do the work. When I gained weight again I became less capable of doing that with control and reverted to using my own weight to stabilize the bike. So, I feel ya. Give it time and practice with some advanced techniques and it will improve. Also, ya might give the GF some new instructions on passenger etiquette, as in.....your thinner now so she should get her arms around you so you both move as one. Good luck. .

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
