My dr recommends whey for my Protein supplements. I use Syntrax nectar products (have vanilla torte, cappucino, and unflavored). I've only tried the unflavored once, in a glass of ice tea. Made it gritty, like drinking sand and there's a bit of an aftertaste. I've heard that unflavored doesn't mean "no flavor", just means they haven't added a specific flavor.

Good luck! Oh, btw, you can order Syntrax Nectar on Amazon for $32.99 + I have Amazon Prime so - free shipping. otherwise it's about $35.00 at Bjsbariatrics.com or $39.00 at The Vitamin Shoppe

I am trying out things now to get an idea pre op. I ordered Unjury sampler for around $30. It has two of each chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, unflavored and chicken broth. It also comes with a Rubbermaid shaker bottle and a thermometer. ( Because the Protein Powder cannot be heated above 140 degrees or it clumps and congeals) So far I have tried the strawberry and chocolate. I can tolerate the strawberry but preferred chocolate. I just want an idea now of what is out there.

I bought several different brands and flavored, before surgery.... The unflavored nectar is fine if you add it to something like Soup. I ordered Isopure alpine punch and Isopure orange pineapple banana. Both not what I expected but if I mix it with a similar flavor in crystal light it's pretty good. I got the pre mixed ones from costco Premier Protein in chocolate that were handy and really good.

nectar lemon tea flavor is actually pretty good. Very lightly sweetened

Nectar Cookies and cream is good if mixed with almond milk.

Now, pre surgery I could tolerate any of them at any time. After surgery the isopure flavored with crystal light have been easiest to get down as well as the lemon tea flavor.

The cookie one.. Ugh I just can't right now 11 days post op. or any of the chocolate flavored in general make me gag.

And a flavor I like today I won't like tomorrow lol it's like my friend who is pregnant... We compare notes on what we hate today vs yesterday ...,

Good luck finding something you enjoy!

I did the same thing tried out so many brands of shakes pre-op and pretty much tolerated them all. Once I had my surgery I can't drink them now for some reason. Strawberry is very painful but vanilla and chocolate is fine I mostly drink vanilla because it goes down smooth unlike chocolate its somewhat painful. This happen to a lot of people on here. Why I don't know if someone have the answer please explain.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
