October Sleevers - Who else

Recommended Posts

Do you think requesting 2 to 3 weeks off work to recover is long enough??? I'm an administrative assistant and sit most of day but have a long commute 1 hour each way

Plenty of time I took 6 weeks but I could go back tomorrow but I'm enjoying my time off and my short term is paying me 100% but I have a physical job my doc said if you have a desk job 2 weeks is plenty many can go back after a week

Congrats to you all you!!! Very helpful post! It's good to learn all you're posting for us pre-op's. I'm schedule for 11/15/13' date=' starting diet 11/1 I have several inquiries Anyone a diabetic type 2? High blood pressure? Are you off all meds after your WLS? Are you you able to sleep in your side after surgery? Do they strap you down on the surgery table! I don't like feeling of being pindown or strapped for anything. Freaks me out I suffer from anxiety/panic attacks, do they give Meds before surgery to help calm nerves down? [/quote'] I was able to sleep at an angle with lots of pillows postop. I did have a drain which was slightly uncomfortable. Maybe a week and a half on my side with no pillows, then about 2.5 weeks out I could sleep on my stomach. They do have to strap you down. I was being strapped down and the nurse was putting the compression devices on my legs while I was talking to the anesthesiologist. Then I felt warm and tingly all of a sudden and asked him if he gave me something which he had. I told them to take good care of me and that was it. They did give me something preop but it had no effect on me. Ask them for something and I'm sure they will oblige. I know they want you as calm as possible preop.

As far as work, I have 4 weeks off

Don't worry. One minute you'll be chatting and the next you'll be waking up. I remember them sticking some buttons on my head and they were chatting to me. Next thing I knew, I was back in bed. Don't be afraid - you will be fine :-)

I think that should be fine for a less physical job (I work as an ICU nurse so am taking at least 6 weeks off)... I'm 2 weeks out and starting to finally feel much better' date=' though I have an hour commute too and would still worry about it as I have been getting motion sick/ nauseous in cars recently...

This is new- has anyone else experienced this?!?!?

Have to start somewhere sometime though... So see if you can make it, and just leave early if you can, until you are back in the swing of things :)

I can give you a few answers - I was sleeved last Monday 10/21: I am still on prescription heartburn meds, I was able to sleep on my side about 3-4 days after, I don't recall being strapped down because whatever they gave me in pre op for nerves kicked in before I got to the or. Good luck!! You'll do great. Keep us posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
