Sleeved on August 15th

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on the 15th of this month. I was put on a liquid diet upon discharge. I've been home and have been able to finish my Premier Protein shakes yogurts, cream Soups and amout of Water I was told to drink. I feel like I'm eating as much as I was during my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I never feel full or sick. No pain or discomfort. Is this normal. Besides the brusing on my stomach I feel like nothing has changed.

I had my surgery on the 14th of this month. I also was put on the liquid diet upon discharge. But, I am having the total opposite outcome. I'm barely getting in my liquids, partially dehydrated from not getting them in. When I drink to fast or too soon between sips, because I'm trying to get in what I can, it feels like a lump in my chest.

I'm curious as to how you drink your liquids during the day and how you eat your meals, well what we call meals right now. Maybe it can help me get it in, because I know it is extremely important. I would appreciate so much if you could tell me what your typical day is like. How has your weight loss progressed thus far?

Thanks so much.

My day starts out with a Premier Protein chocolate shake 11oz, 4 oz of apple juice and Water 16.9 oz size bottle (it takes me about 20 mins to finish the bottle). lunch is 6 oz cream Soup Campbell's any flavor lite-sodium, and a yoplait yogurt. Water 1/2 hr after food, 16.9 oz bottle. snack sugar free popsicle. dinner another Protein Shake. And more water after that. I've been substituting popsicle with sugar free puddings at times. Everything seems too normal. I don't know whether to be concerned or not. HW 240 / PRE-OP W 214 / CW 208...

everyone is differnt. Don't worry, your stomach is not the same. Follow your plan. That said, I bet you'll "experiment" and find your limits (I think we all do). And the limits will be a wake up call...

I did not feel any restriction until I started thick purees. Hand in there through your diet progression. Now I'm having trouble getting enough Protein and liquids in because I feel so full all the time and waiting to drink before/after eating.

Thank you to all who replied! It makes me feel much better to know the there are others like myself out there! I've had two friends who were sleeved about 2 years ago and were saying how excessive my eating was post-op.

I also had my surgery on the 15th as well. I haven't had any major problems. I can drink by Protein Shakes ok, a little at a time, but my issue is Water. It seems to hurt a little when I drink any. But its getting better and better. My pre op diet I lost 20lbs and another 20lbs since the surgery. Its that too much to fast? My energy level is good until about 2 or 3pm then I kinda done for the day.

I barely made it past 3 pm without a nap the first week. Glad you're doing well.

I've been fine with everything. As far as the Water, small sips for me my throat is still irritated. I'm thinking because of the breathing tube. Other than that I believe your weight loss is normal. I've only lost 7lbs since my surgery and energy dosent seem like a problem. Actually before my surgery my bed time was about 11pm right now I'm at the 1:30am mark... scary cause ill be going back to work soon! :)

Try differnt temperatures of liquid. It sounds strange but some do better with lukewarm or warm??!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
