Can't they give you something for the nausea?

Yes, every couple of hours they do. But it only lasts so long before it comes back. And I need to start drinking Water or ice, but every time I try, it brings back the nausea so bad.

So it's been just over 24 hrs since I've had surgery and now I'm in a bit more pain. All the gas trying to escape my body hurts!

Thanks. Today' date=' I actually feel worse than I did yesterday. I was told that it's because I may still have had some anesthesia wearing off slowly yesterday. I might stay in the hospital a day or 2 more than anticipated... I just hate the nausea, it's one of the worst... :-([/quote']

True, nausea is awful especially when it's followed by dry heaves. I had that for the first 2 days from surgery day. Been free of n/v so I'm definitely on the mend.

It will pass, I'm 4 days post-op and gas has subsided about 70%. When it does occur its brief episodes. Your doing just fine. Keep plugging along and keep your eyes on the prize.

This is my 3rd day in the hospital. I'm not feeling any better. Even if I have a dip of Water, I get nauseous. They aren't giving me pain killers through my iv anymore; now it's a Syrup I have to swallow, which also give me nausea, but apart from that, the syrup does help once I survive from the horrible nausea.

Oh, God Bless you!! There is NOTHING like that kind of nausea:( I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time of it. I had the same but it passed by day 3. It will get better...I remember asking my hubby "WHY did I do this??" because I HATE being nauseous...pain is better than nausea to me.

Hope you get to feeling better. You can demand meds for your needs. My DR. Has me taking something in increase bowl movement. I pooped this morning. That helps get rid of gas. There is also meds given through you IV for nausea. DAMAND IT!!!

We are in the same boat. I'm tying to walk as much as I can. They have told me this is the best thing to do to get it released faster. At times the gas feel like I'm being stabbed. Even rubbing the area hurts. Then I just pray.

I just got my drain out and feel 100 X better. The stabbing pain was comin from my drain site.

Me too. They took my drain out and I already feel some relief. However, I'm noticing a lot more the shoulder and back pain they warned me I was going to feel because of all the gas they filled me with.

Today is the first day that I'm having something different than ice or Water. I just had 4spoons of some clear broth...

I told them I was susceptible to nausea and the put a batch behind my ear that lasted 3 days. You might ask for that as well.

How much walking do you consider enough walking so early post op? I do walk as well but usually down the hospital hallway and back maybe twice a day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
