keke 60 Posted August 22, 2013 So I have a cold and I went for my pre-op testing today... According to the anesthesiologist if I don't get rid of my cold by next week Friday I can't have surgery :-)... What can I do to get rid of this cold and make sure it stays gone??? Please help!! ScottsGirl 106 Posted August 22, 2013 I had bronchitis the week before surgery, didn't tell my doc. I went to urgent care, got an inhaler and didn't go away until the day before surgery - lucked out! Just drink plenty of Water, blow your nose a lot, take Emergen-C twice a day if you can (or other powerful vitamins), and sleep as much as you can at night. I wouldn't exercise much if I were you. You should be fine in a week. I rarely ever get sick, so it was weird that I got bronchitis and now I have a friggin cold due to being in the hospital overnight! Best of luck to you! Bufflehead 6,358 Posted August 22, 2013 if you have a cold antibiotics aren't going to help you, they work on bacteria, not viruses. As much rest as you can possibly get and tons of fluids is what my sister tells her patients! She's an internal medicine doctor.
Macy6 356 Posted August 23, 2013 Tons of fluids.... Saline nasal rinses.... Emergen-C good luck!
