Cold/ No surgery!?!

Recommended Posts

So I have a cold and I went for my pre-op testing today... According to the anesthesiologist if I don't get rid of my cold by next week Friday I can't have surgery :-)... What can I do to get rid of this cold and make sure it stays gone??? Please help!!

I had bronchitis the week before surgery, didn't tell my doc. I went to urgent care, got an inhaler and didn't go away until the day before surgery - lucked out!

Just drink plenty of Water, blow your nose a lot, take Emergen-C twice a day if you can (or other powerful vitamins), and sleep as much as you can at night. I wouldn't exercise much if I were you. You should be fine in a week.

I rarely ever get sick, so it was weird that I got bronchitis and now I have a friggin cold due to being in the hospital overnight!

Best of luck to you! :)

if you have a cold antibiotics aren't going to help you, they work on bacteria, not viruses. As much rest as you can possibly get and tons of fluids is what my sister tells her patients! She's an internal medicine doctor.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
