Hello

I am going to the seminar on 9/4 but I am 95% sure I am going to have the sleeve procedure. I have a BMI of 44 and Obstructive sleep Apnea.

My question is since I have already been diagnosed with OSA, will I have to go through another sleep Study. I have Anthem BC/BS.

I have also been on WW for the past 2 years and have all my weight trackers to show that I have. Been on a roller coaster ride with my weight. I am hoping I do not have to go through extensive NUT counseling since I have been doing this.

I am reading inspiring stories here and I am looking forward to the possibilities

Terri

If you are Dxd with OSA, and are using CPAP, I doubt that you'll need a do-over. But in the end ALL the approval pre-requirements are up to your insurance carriers and the Docs...

Your NUT and associated work will focus on your post-sleeve life and are IMHO -- important.

Don't rush, the time is well spent and you will be in this for the rest of your life!!!

I have sleep apnea and use a cpap machine and I did not have to be retested. Just brought my machine with me in the hospital. I was also going to WW and I did have to go through all the NUT training - and believe me it was all geared for the sleeve and stuff you need to know.

I did not have to have a sleep study, partly because we knew I did have an issue but not apnea and it doesn't affect my breathing. I had a history of nearly annual tests. Another reason was I had to have the surgery anyway, so they were able to bypass the sleep study for that too. Not sure why the one surgery would need it and the other not.

Don't look at the nut as a negative thing. The counseling, the nut, it is all intended to assist you. You are spending your hard earned money, take advantage of every visit. Add every bit of info offered to your arsenal to be successful.

Good luck.

I totally agree with what was said in prior posts. The NUT visits are very helpful for your life post surgery. I wish I had went into my visits with a better attitude, rather than to just fulfill my insurance requirements. Turns out, I still go to her when I get in a stall and her info is still helpful. Who knew?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
