tashman 7 Posted August 22, 2013 Hey guys/fellow sleevers Just wondered if any of you have tried fizzy drinks yet? I'm 6 weeks post op and would anything for a diet coke!!! was told to stay away from fizzy and carbonated drinks. Anyone have any views on this?
BKLYNgal87 503 Posted August 22, 2013 If you do a forum search on the soda you'll find everyone has thoughts on that subject. It has been overdone, actually. There isn't concrete proof in hard data, only correlation, that carbonated beverages alone will stretch the sleeve. But that doesn't mean there won't be one day. Better to err on the side of caution and do as your surgical team tells you, at least on this issue.
BKLYNgal87 503 Posted August 22, 2013 At the very least it will probably give you some wicked heartburn. You're only a month and a half out and still healing.
mokee 588 Posted August 22, 2013 I finally tried diet coke but at the time I was 6 months out. I now have one occasionally maybe average once a week. The only bad part is all the gas and belching it causes. I believe that moderation in all things is the key to life. If I had followed that my whole life I would never have needed this surgery. Since it is so early for you I would stay away.
vogue 310 Posted August 22, 2013 I drink fizzy drinks all the time, though I did not start as early as you..6 weeks is too soon I put crystal lite or similar in with sodium free seltzer Water over crushed ice... got me over my cravings for Slushies this summer
Arts137 1,811 Posted August 22, 2013 Yes, everyone has an opinion... My program says stay away... period. So I am trying, since I do want coffee and after 6 months will have some wine... I will pass on carbonation (even champagne) 1 ribearty reacted to this

stefaniwg 172 Posted August 22, 2013 I have tried diet soda with Water added to eliminate the carbonation as much as possible. It doesn't taste as good but gives me the fix.
