legalchik82 0 Posted August 22, 2013 Hi all, I had gastric sleeve surgery 3 days ago and I m wondering if anyone can recommend any great support groups for ppl living in and around Sydney? I desperately want the most out of my surgery and knowledge is power so I'm cyber stalking other sleevers. I had my surgery with Dr Craig Taylor at The Mater and so far, so good. Sydney Susan 333 Posted September 2, 2013 Hi there. I'm hoping you've now found the Aussie Sleevers thread, where most of us seem to congregate. If not just search for it. I had my op at end of April, also with Craig Taylor at Mater - I think he's great and love that he gave such good post op care. There are posts here of people having this op as outpatient surgery... It can be a big op. People do die from it occasionally, and some have severe complications. I felt in pretty safe hands. I haven't found a Sydney support group but would love to hear if you have. The O Clinic can probably direct us to one. Or we can form our own! I started at 103.5, now 82.5 and aiming for 72. Losing 20% of your body weight really does make a huge difference, even though I'm still overweight (but no longer obese, yay!). I lost most of my weight in the first 2 months and have been crawling through a kilo and a half for the last 2 months. Frustrating to the max. PM me if you want to catch up "in person". I live and work in North Ryde/Macquarie Park area.

I'm struggling today so you're message couldn't have come at a better time. Due to unforeseen circumstances with the psychiatrist I didn't get any sessions with him before surgery and I feel like I need it now. Lucky I'm going soon for my follow up appt. I live in the St George area and work in the city but would love to catch up some time. I started ALOT heavier than you at 150 and I've lost around 17 kg in the month incl Opti phase. I'm pretty happy but will be really happy to see my dr cause I have lots of questions Again I m having such a horrid day so you're message came at a great time. Thank you
Sydney Susan 333 Posted September 2, 2013 I just wrote a long message and my system froze up when I tried to post it. I don't have time to post it all again now but the gist was I'm thinking of you, it gets easier every day, and can we catch up for lunch in the city at the end of this month or beginning of Oct?? Take care of yourself and keep in touch Susan.
