Drinking Water - 3 weeks Post op

Recommended Posts

My surgery was on 8/6. I have moved into the soft phase of eating foods and increasing the Water intake. I have no problem drinking Water, although the quantity is a lot right now as far as how much I can handle at once. I am having a very hard time not talking normal or even big drinks of water. I drank a lot of water before surgery and now I pick up the bottle of water and find myself drinking it as I used to. Does anyone else drink as they used to post op and just looking for any words of advice. Am I risking damage to my stomach or staple line 22 days out of surgery??

Thanks All.....

Joan

I had surgery on 7/30. I was also drank a lot of Water before. I can drink almost as much as before too. I feel fine. My biggest fear was dehydration after surgery. I figure water just slips right through my sleeved tummy. It doesn't make me feel full. Also ice water is very soothing to me, so I drink as much as I want. I think I'm getting at least 64oz a day.

I had mine 8/7 and can drink at least 3-4 ozs at a time as long as there is no food in my stomach. Your doc must be anxious to advance you so quickly to soft food, I'm not there until the 3rd week. My nurse just reminded me that we're not supposed to feel full yet, if we do, then we're consuming too much and this can breach the staple line which would be a big problem!

Fluids go through quickly for me, so I'm a water/protein shake drinkin' fool!

I am in my third week so started soft foods yesterday. The Water just goes down, my hope of course is no stretching.

I've read that sleeved stomachs do not stretch all that easily, even after years post op. You might be able to eat more food comfortably, or you might gain from eating too many foods that slide through, like ice creams and milkshakes. It seems you are worried about messing up your post-surgery restriction by drinking too much Water. I wouldn't worry about that. Clear Water is good for you. Unless you are guzzling down huge amounts all at once, which i don't think you are. Just don't drink within 30 minutes of eating food, you'll be just fine. Of course, I'm not a doctor, i'm just a librarian who has read everything about this surgery. :). My only worry right now is not eating enough. I can only get in about 500 calories a day, including two Protein shakes. I know my weight loss will really start once I can start eating more calories and exercising. Right now, I'm too tired to do anything more than walk my dog twice a day.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
