Looking for advice

Recommended Posts

My name is Barbara. I had a sleeve gastrectomy done March 2012. Since that date I have lost 35 lbs. Of course I feel much better, however I am quite aways from my goal weight. I have had no problems with my surgery, I can eat anything but I'm hungry all of the time. My surgical group hasn't given any reason why this is happening & doesn't seem concerned so I have consulted with a 2nd bariatric specialist. He sent me for an upper GI to evaluate my sleeve, thinking maybe it is too large. I'm exercising every day & trying my best to eat what I'm supposed to. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issues?

Were you put on an eating plan of Protein then veggies then fruit then carbs? If so, are/did you follow the plan?

Did you have a pre-op plan that you had to follow?

Edit: Also, how much Protein, calories, Water are you getting daily?

Are you saying you are eating more than you should, due to being hungry?

I try to stick to about 1200 calories/day. I still drink Protein Shakes to make sure I get about 100 grams of protein/day. Of course I eat what I'm not supposed to at times but 90% of the time I eat mostly Protein foods & I have cut the carbs. I drink around 40-60 ounces of water/day. I'm just so frustrated because I do what I'm supposed to do yet I don't lose weight.

At 1200 calories a day you should easily make your Protein goals without the shakes...

If i were you, I would start logging your food and stick to Protein dense foods and veggies everyday

The Water? 64oz should be your minimum.

If I don't push my Water, I don't lose.

What did the upper GI say?

I was just sitting here re-reading info & decided I need more dense meat for sure. I used to drink so much Water pre-surgery & now I don't have a desire to drink but I need to try. Waiting for results still.

What about exercise? Are you physically able to do cardio or strength training? food isn't 100% of the battle after all.

In addition to all the other suggestions, one thing I have found is that if I do not get 8 hours of sleep, I do not lose. I realized a few weeks ago that when I can get an appropriate amount of sleep, the scale is always down at least a few ounces in the morning. The nights I do not get 8 hours of sleep, I stay the same or gain a few ounces.

So I have definitely been more active since surgery but not consistent. I started the Insanity workouts 11 days ago but have yet to lose a pound which is hard to believe if you have seen those workouts.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
