I got good news today

Recommended Posts

I got good news today at my endoscopy appt. The band is not eroding. He said he was check for erosion and whether the band was pressing on my esphogus. Both were negative.

I am soooo soooo happy. The only thing he kept telling me and my husband was that he would not take the band out now but that they would have to "play' with it a bit. He was not sure if the band is in the correct spot at this point since he was looking from the inside. He said he could see the restriction of the band on the inside of the stomach. He thought maybe the band needs to be repositioned.

The last time I talked to my surgeon (a week ago) he said the band was on an angle with part of the band higher than the other part. Is this normal? I thought the bands were placed pretty straight or as straight as they could possibly put it. Does anyone think the band started to slip?

I placed a call to my surgeon's office earlier this afternoon, so I will see what he says. Maybe they will actually let me eat something that requires teeth to chew.

Maureen, that's wonderful news!! Now that you know your worst fears are NOT coming true you can concentrate on getting your symptoms cleared up. I know that when I see my band in an x-ray it looks slightly tilted, and I'm assuming that's normal. Maybe my stomach isn't completely straight. :)

Yeah, Maureen!!! Congrats!!

I was looking for links on proper placement of the band, 'cause I wanted to say that a slight angle was normal, but my browser froze up and I never got my answer. I do think it is supposed to be on a slight angle, but I could be so wrong. Anyone else?

Anyway, whoo hoo on no erosion!!!

:)

Hi Maureen,

Glad to hear your worst fears weren't real. Now you can get on with getting it fixed if its broken somewhere. I was hoping everything would work out for you. Teresa;)

I have been told during my band problems that the band is definitely supposed to be sitting at an angle.

Leatha, you really are awesome! I got my lap band book but I can't find that list that you posted of typical banded feelings and responses. Did you get that from the book? Thanks, Teresa

Thank everyone for the good wishes and to Leatha for the graphics. Haven't talked to my dr yet (we keep missing each other) but by the graphic it looks like the band is definitely on an angle. Makes me feel a lot better. Still on liquids though....blah

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
