7 weeks out and still feeling sick

Recommended Posts

I have put this call out a few times and received some good info, but need more. My husband was sleeved 3 weeks after me. I am doing great, not the loss I expected, but health wise I feel awesome and have never had any ill effects, other than the occasional puking for eating to fast or eating the wrong thing.

My husband on the other hand is not doing so well. He has never felt well since the surgery. He is VERY nausous with everything that he eats or drinks. It was suggested to stop drinking straight Water and that has helped somewhat, but he still gets sick regularly and gets an upset stomach with anything that he eats or drinks. I called the doc and they want to scope him. He won't let them touch him again, LOL. I have changed his acid reduced 2x (started with Omeprazole, went to Zantac and is now on Prilosec). The doc is giving him a new anti-nausea med today so we will try that, but thought if anyone else had this issue, perhaps they could give some good advise.

I have survivors guilt at this point because our experiences have been SO different.

You must talk him into getting scoped. I remember when my husband had cancer and he lay in the hospital bed so ill and he said "Oh I don't feel like eating and just laid there". I said "I guess I will go to the post office and get a change of address card so all your mail can come here". He sat up and ate. I know as soon as they stop eating it is over. That was called tough love. He is cancer free, thank God, 7 yrs later.

It is up to you to care for your loved one no matter what you must do and no matter how hard it is.

Agree 100%. My husband had to do that with me when I got sick last year, and after I recovered, was made sick by eating so i stopped eating. I had to do it with him during our post-op when he decided to self-medicate and stopped taking his meds because he thought he was all cured. Some tough love is likely in order. He has to get scoped so they can find out what the issue is and how to fix it.

I'm sure you will figure out how to motivate/guilt/pressure/persuade/whatever it takes to get him there :)

I have fought that nausea feeling off and on for five weeks. for me it was about eating and drinking too fast. Never mind that it was loads slower than ever before, it wasnt slow enough or small sips enough. Now that i am timing my itty bitty bites it is much better. Nevertheless if he doesnt feel better quickly he should get it checked out.

I have had nausea since surgery 10 weeks ago. Some things I've found...even if he throws up, don't drink anything for that 30 minutes at least. I would try and drink to get rid of the awful taste and it would prolong my nausea.

Also, it is best to do like we do with babies...try one new food for a few days, then move on to the next. Even if you think today you can have X tomorrow you may not be able to tolerate it.

Eat and drinkly as sloooooowly as possible. As someone said above, sometimes slow is just not slow enough. Also, check the Protein he's eating/drinking. He may find that he is lactose or has some other intolerances.

Try to eat undistracted. What I found is that my nausea didn't really sneak up on me. If I was eating alone I could tell almost instantly when something was not right. BUT when I ate with someone it was harder to tell I was getting sick until I was running to the bathroom.

Most of all...get him to the Dr. Remind him this is like buying a car, you wouldn't just not take your new car to the shop if it stopped running. Why on earth do this with your health? If the Dr messed up, s/he sure better fix it. The only way to do that is to go there and demand it.

He still has life, so make sure he doesn't lose it over something that may be treatable.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
