Has anyone canceled thier surgery

Recommended Posts

I just keep thinking I'm not ready to do the post diet' date=' I've been able to stick to the preop diet of two Protein shakes and a veggie/salad and grilled chicken dinner. No bread/ potatoes/ sugar caffeine or soda ( haven't had soda in months anyway). It's day 8 and I'm not hungry and my salads and chicken haven't tasted good since last Thursday. I just keep thinking I'm not ready and I want to cx. Scared and sad[/quote']

As others have said, the lack of desire to eat makes it easier to cope with restrictions after surgery than before. BUT not everyone who gets the surgery is thrilled - read around the forums and get a good overview of experiences. One poster said it well some weeks ago - he noticed (and his dietician agreed) that most people are just hanging out to get the sleeve - often expecting too much from it but prepared to "suffer" a bit to get diet restriction. All he could focus on was the downside and he decided he just had to try to lose his weight another way.

This is pretty big surgery and non-reversible so it's appropriate to ponder it seriously and for some to decide its not for them, either right now or ever. Discuss with your doctor what he/she sees the risks are for you with and without the surgery - my doctor and I were pretty certain of a very premature death so it was a no brainer for me.

Would I do it again? Absolutely, but I was v happy with the v conservative medical care I received (I was in hospital 4 days, which is my doctors usual regime). I've had a number of surgeries in the last 6 years and I appreciate the risks of it, and couldn't have gone ahead with a dr who pushed me through and out of hospital quickly.

If you do decide to cancel now, it is no big deal. Do it when you are sure - but get good medical advice first. You may not make your decision solely on medical advice but it is important that you take it into consideration.

Good luck.

I was originally scheduled for surgery at the beginning of May, but ended up canceling due to being overly scared and nervous. All I could think about was the "what ifs." I have now rescheduled for September 25th. So far, I am not scared at all. I'm sure that will probably change as the date draws near, but I am doing it this time around, period!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
