They say I have no pouch?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon thinks that I no longer have a pouch? When everyone talks about slips it seems that they talk about the stomach coming up through the band......how do you end up with no pouch...the band moving up-or stomach moving down?

A little history---I was banded 11/9/05 and have always struggled with a general sense of discomfort....I would say that i could feel my band. The pain is located between my shoulder blades and radiates into my right shoulder. It is long story but I think i have had reflux for a long time and didn't know what it was. I had an barium swallow about 6mths after surgery, an abdominal ultrasound to rule out gallstones and extensive blood work. Everything was Okay...doc didn't think it was reflux. I was left to just deal with the pain.

In November the pain seemed to get worse and became more persitent. I had a complete unfill Dec. 5th because of the pain. I had the unfill under flouro and at that time I had a pouch...now I do not. As of Jan 6 pain did not get better even after the unfill. I had an endoscopy last week that is when the said it appears i have no pouch. I will have a barium swallow Monday.

thanks for any advice

Thanks Leatha for your reply

Have you heard of this before...whats your thought as to why it would migrate up? I didn't pb but maybe...once a mth for eating to quickly. Didn't feel too tight could eat anything was wanting another fill. My best guess is a was over eating.....I just haven't heard of it migrating up.

Praying for the best...not sure what to do if is was to lose my band or if I keep my band and the pain does not go away? Anyway will keep you all posted. Trusting God for clear direction

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
