Jeremy 0 Posted August 21, 2013 Hello fellow forum crawlers! So I've been on here for a few years... Long story short, I battled with my doctor for the better part of three years to get referred to the specialist... this finally happened yesterday, yay. I know that Manitoba Health only recently approved men to have the surgery done in Manitoba... so I don't know how great the information on men is on this in Manitoba... So my question is... Does anyone in Winnipeg/Manitoba know what the turn around time to the first consult is after referral? I assume it would be the same for men as it would be for women. I recall talking to someone on here a few years back who said from referral to surgery she had a total time of roughly a year.. Not sure if that's accurate anymore? Thanks for reading! blackfalls 26 Posted August 21, 2013 Congrats on finally getting referred! Unfortunately I have no idea what the answer to your question is. I am in Alberta but I'm going to Mexico next month/self-pay.
Jeremy 0 Posted August 21, 2013 What's the cost / wait time / etc... on the Mexico option? I've seen a lot of talk about that here.

blackfalls 26 Posted August 21, 2013 You find a surgeon you want and you set it up. They do want you to do a 2-3 week pre-op diet though to shrink your liver and that's pretty much it. As for cost, it depends on the surgeon. I am going to Dr. Valenzuela in Tijuana. The cost for my surgery is US$4500. I had two colleagues from Saskatchewan who went to Dr. Aceves and Dr. Alvarez. They cost about US$8700. They have had no problems at all, one a 30 year old woman and the other a mid 40s man.
