Need advice - Travel

Recommended Posts

Hoping I can get some advice. I had my surgery last Wednesday, so 6 days out. I am feeling amazing. Energy levels really improving and now eating real food, although very tiny portions. I plan to return to work at 2 weeks. I have a pretty big business meeting on September 3 for 3 nights that I did not think I would be able to attend. Now I'm having second thoughts and think maybe I could. Would require travel from Phoenix to Jacksonville, so all day air travel. Once there, just meetings. My co workers mostly know so I think I could manage the meal situations. So, would you go this soon? Or have you travelled this soon after surgery? Thanks in advance for any input : )

I was told no travel for 6 weeks but that's primarily due to the risk of blood clots from sitting too long. If you can get an isle seat and get up to walk/ stretch, you should be fine. My trips are 9-26 hours so that is why I was on restricted travel.

Next week will be 4 weeks post-op for me and I have to travel. I intend to check in my bag that I normally carry on. I have also planned the travel to avoid crazy airports like Detroit and Atlanta which take miles of walking really fast to make connections. It will likely take me 4 hours of flying and then another 1 by car to get to my destination. I'm feeling up to it.

Ask me again when the trip is over :)

My surgeon ok'ed me to travel (by plane) 10 days post-op. As someone already said, Dr. told me to walk around every 30-45 minutes if possible.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
