16 days out, so dang hungry today. Normal, right?

Recommended Posts

In my defense, it's been 5 weeks since I chewed anything. I don't know what it is but my husband and I are both very hungry today. We have a few more days before we're allowed solid foods. Soups and Protein shakes are losing their charm and no longer seem to fill us up. The shakes are making us both a bit nauseated now. 650-750 calories, at least 70 gms of Protein and lots of Water, but dang! I'm hungry!

I'm starting to dream about what my first real meal will be. Shall it be refried beans! Or should I have some eggs? What about cheese?

This is to be expected right? I'm telling myself it's a good sign, it means our tummies are healing well, correct?

Haha! I remember before surgery I told my nut that I will never do the purée stage that my doctor had in his progression guidelines!

"I will just stay with shakes malt o meal and such" I said! First day I was allowed "real" food albeit blended? I was a blending fool! chicken and gravy! Meatloaf gravy and watery mashed potatoes! I ate it and I LOVED it :P

I know the feeling!!!! I am only 6 days out and its been 20 days since I've "ate" anything!! Starting full liquids tomorrow . Can't wait to taste real food again! ;) I would say its absolutely normal to think of that first meal!! Good luck to you and your husband on your weight loss journeys!

Pre-op? Yeah the broth is wonderful isn't it? We were allowed veg Soup and we had some wonderful veg Soups. Mmmm.

See!?! I'm hungry! :(

Are you kidding me, I was counting the minutes until I could have "real" food. I think it was eggs -- which didn't feel great, but I tried ... And tried again:)

That makes me feel better! We've been doing well so far, and then today, it's been hard. I think we might well hit all of our 800 calories tonight and I won't even care!

Of course I say this now, but I'm half way through the dinner time Soup. I made my husband heat bigger cups for us tonight. And of course I'm full half-way through it. Thank Gawd!!

I read that ricotta cheese is perfectly acceptable and tastes great with some salt and pepper. Also refried Beans.< /p>

My husband had dental surgery and couldn't chew anything. When he could blend and eat purées, the man blended a Whopper with cheese. So. Fricking. DISGUSTING! We told him we loved him but we refused to sit at the table with him while he ate it.

Completely indelible of course :)

When you start playing around with recipies please let us know which ones worked out best. I have my surgery on Sept 10th so you're kind of blazing the way for me. lol

Definitely! I have several Soup recipes I've posted so I hope you try those. I'm looking for very simple recipes so its very little work but a lot of taste with high Protein :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
