Sheila 0 Posted August 9, 2003 Hi Everyone. I am new to this site and I am really enjoying reading everyones posts. I am just beginning this journey of wls. Next Wednesday I will be attending the seminar that is required prior to scheduling the first consult with the surgeon. I learned about the lapband surgery from my sister who had it done in December 2002. She has lost about 70lbs and looks and feels wonderful. Has also come off of most of her medications (diabetes/high blood pressure and cholestrol). Certainly convinced me to get moving on this path!! Anyway, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I am married with 2 children, a daughter 17, and a son 11. My husband and children have been very supportive of my decision. My daughter says she'll take me shopping to get new clothes in a few months. (maybe jumping the gun there a little, but gives me something to look forward too. She's working too!!) I'll keep you updated on my progress.
Alexandra 55 Posted August 9, 2003 Hi Sheila! You've probably heard this already but don't be surprised if that seminar is 99% about the bypass and 1% about the band. Just be sure that when you ask your questions they understand you are not asking about the bypass. I've run up against that misconception almost every single time I talk with a doctor or nurse. Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask questions!
Sheila 0 Posted August 10, 2003 Thanks Alexandra. Actually I hadn't heard that about the seminar but it doesn't surprise me. Seems the bypass is getting most attention but it's not for me. I am excited about the lapband though. I'll let you know how the seminar goes. Good luckwith your surgery that's coming up pretty soon. Godspeed to you. sheryl 3 Posted August 12, 2003 Hi Sheila. Welcome! I second what Alexandra said about the seminar. You may even hear misinformation, even from doctors. Sad, but true. But the good thing is that you know how successful the band can be. You have your sister! Good luck to you!!
