This is a Public Service Announcement concerning Stalls & Plateaus

Recommended Posts

Okay so here's another one that might explain the TIMING of the stall. I keep reading articles that suggest that people stall after they lose about 10-15% of their body weight.

I will say with my husband and me, it was like clockwork. I had a small stall at 23 lbs lost, and he had a small one at 27 lbs--exactly 10% of body weight for both of us. Did that happen to you?

That makes a whole lot of sense! I started at 280 lbs. and my most recent stall has been between 28 & 30 lbs. I don't remember where my first stall was (weight wise) but the first stall for me only lasted about 10 days and this one has been going on much longer! I have finally been seeing a few ounces coming off on the scale, so I hope and pray that the weight will start coming off again. Good luck, y'all. :)

Come on already ...... Really? 25 days and my weight is the same. I was sleeved on July 30th. I'm ready to throw my scale out the window. This totally sucks. The ONLY saving grace is that my pants size seems to be going down 26 to an 18. (but not the pounds) I've read about this when you loose inches not pounds. Still I don't quite get it, but that's what I am doing. Still 25 days.

I HATE MY scale ..... AND MY SCALE HATES ME.

( Hummmm) - this too shall pass.

I know, be thankful for the inches and stop complaining.

Thanks for listening, I had to give my husbands ears a break.

Lol!! I'll bet he's ear appreciated. I'm going through the same thing, I just don't get it. I was sleeved June 1st and stalled June 20 and from there I loose one lb here and there, haven't lost anything in over a month, I was told to eat more carbs for a day or so to jump start my body I ate fried chicken and half of a red velvet cup cake nothing yet! Just praying that I don't gain instead of loosing. AND YES let's throw the scale out the window. Lol I too hate my scale

Amazing post! I have nothing to contribute because I don't panic about stalls, I just get mad that they're happening. :)

When they do happen, I read the link Butter shared. Or I hunt down the ones PdxMan shared oh so long ago. I miss him. Sound voice of reason in the face of stalls - Fiddle and Butter have picked up and tried to be the answer to the "why" behind a lot of what we experience but I still miss that guy's posts!

In any case, every single newly sleeved person should read this post.

I needed this post so bad. I was chugging right along after my surgery in April...never hit a stall, then at the beginning of August until today, I did not drop an ounce! Today I am down just a 10th of a lb...and happy for it. I have to admit that this "stall/plateau" correlates to my stop in tracking and monitoring my intake....and eating sometimes till its PAINFUL. So the links to the articles help,to remind me....I ain't doing the work right now. I have gotten lazy. I have about 35 lbs to go.....I need to get back to those things that work. Thanks for the insight and reminder. I needed a kick in my squishy butt to firm it up :>)

Okay I'm shamelessly bumping this topic because a lot of people are asking about stalls. Read the first post here and the referenced articles, and feel better!

I feel like I'm the only one who's not had a stall. I read Butters 3 week stall on his signature when I first joined. At the time is was my only knowledge of there being a stall. I thought crap I'm a month out its going to happen any day. I was scared. Then my heart went out to everyone who had a stall!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
