How do I know?

Recommended Posts

How do I know when I've found my sweet spot? I've had one fill thus far, and it was done under flouroscopy (sp?) but I'm not having consistent weight loss since my fill.

Please share the "how you know" part.

I had to get slightly overfilled, and then a slight unfill, before I knew I was at my sweet spot. After my last fill, I couldn't eat Breakfast and often got a lump in my throat while eating (no PBs, though). I stuck with it for a week, but then got a small unfill. Now I can eat anything, but I'm satisfied (not full!) with small meals, and I have much less hunger than before banding. But, I can't say that I have *no* hunger. I do sometimes get hungry between meals. I try to manage that by drinking Water, or maybe going to the gym. But, if I really want a snack, I have one. I just keep it to 100 cal. or so.

I was one of the unusual ones who got restriction very early on. After just one fill, you probably still have a fill or two to go before getting restriction. In the meantime, just keep drinking that Water. It's your best defense against hunger!

Hi!

First of all, it will most likely take more than one fill. That said, please be patient, and go slow toward your "sweet spot." It is easy to miss, and go further.

I think I may be there now...at least I consider it my sweet spot. I can eat real food, like meat, salad, veggies, fruit, etc. Even some bread. I just eat small portions, and chew reasonably well. I have never had a PB. I don't have acid reflux. If I eat too big of bites, or too fast, I will get the "golfball" feeling. I also get that same feeling if I try to eat too much. So, I consider this to be just perfect. I lose weight relatively steadily, with regularly spaced plateau periods, for adjusting to new weight levels. No problems at all with my band, thus far.

I always say the secret to success is patience and big picture view...don't rush things and get yourself in trouble.

Good luck, and hope you get some information that makes sense to you!

I'm at my sweetspot. I have 3cc in my 10cc band (which holds 4.2cc). You know when a)you aren't as hungry b)you are losing c)you aren't PB'ing very often. I think these are good signs. I am losing far more now. I think you need another fill. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your posts. I think I'm going to plan a trip for another fill as soon as possible.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
