When am I full?

Recommended Posts

This sounds silly but when do i know I am full. When I eat I feel tight in my throat but still feel hungry. It took me 30 minutes this morning to eat my 2 egg omlet. I felt tight in my throat but still felt hungry so I stopped eating and waited till it went away (about 10 min) then continued to eat. Chewing every bite 30 times. I am content but not full. I feel I could still eat something. Is this the way it is suppose to be?

Help!!!

You shouldn't get full - you should stop when you are content. I know that's so hard because we're so used to eating til we make ourselves sick but that's why we got the band - to stop that from happening. Maybe eggs don't go down that easy for you. Does it do that when you other things. I know chewing eggs 30 times is next to impossible but it gets easier. Also, I see you had your first fill already. Maybe you're too tight. If it keeps happening, talk to your doctor. Good Luck!

I agree that you need to stop when you feel content. I have had similar experiences with food like that, and I think what happens is this: we've always been told that it takes 20 minutes for our stomach to signal our brain that we are full, right? Well, which stomach are they talking about now? The little one or the big one? If it takes 20 mintutes for our big stomach to signal our brain, but it takes 3-4 hours for the food to pass from the little one to the big one--what does that mean? Does it take 4 hours for our big stomach to let our brains know we are full? Okay, now my brain hurts from thinking about all that:p . All I know is that there have been many days when I have felt hungry and full at the same time, and I have tried to just ride it out. I'm sure after we have been banded a while longer, we will figure this out!

I know a good source of information on that! Read Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Rozein's book "You on a Diet". He explains all about our digestive system, and the various enzymes, hormones, etc. that turn on and off hunger. One of his tips is to eat a small handfull of raw almonds 20 minutes before your meal (a small handful is like 7-10 nuts). So, have a little snack while you're cooking. That signals the stomach to release leptin, which is the "I'm full" signal to the brain. By the time you sit down to actually eat, you're brain is already getting the message that starvation is no longer around the corner!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
