Hello all, I am still waiting on one more appointment and then it will all be turned over to the insurance. I live in Fruita (Western Colorado) and I have to go to Denver for my surgery. Not really happy about that, however, Dr Snyder seems like a great doctor. Anyone have any feedback?

I live in Colorado Springs and will be having my surgery in Denver with Dr. Schoen on October 3rd. I wasn't super happy about having to drive too but after meeting my new surgical team (had to change due to switching jobs and new insurance) I realized how much info I was lacking from my previous consultation. I'm not thankful I switched and feel a million times more comfortable with the facility I'm going to now.

Do you have a date set yet or do you have to wait for the insurance?

I have not received a surgery date yet. I need to see the cardio doctor to get clearance, then I guess it will go to insurance. I was hoping it would be the end of August but life happened so now I wait!

Do you need a Center of Excellence? Is that why you need to go to Denver? St. Marys is in the process of becoming a COE, but not there yet.

I wish I could have it done in GJ, however, if my insurance pays 100% if I have it in Denver, Denver it is!

I had surgery with dr Snyder in feb of this year. He is awesome and a very very capable surgeon. Love his team too!!! I think you made a very wise choice, though I may be biased.

Do any of y'all use Kaiser insurance? My sister is in the process and lives outside of Denver and was trying to get some reviews on surgeons there.

Hey her, who was your coordinator? I was seen June 26th, and have almost completed all the appointments and tests, etc and today I called my coordinator and she never received the email with all the attachments I sent to her the end of July! Frustrating! She said that she doesn't want to send it my insurance until she knows what they require and the insurance company won't tell me what is required until it is submitted!!!! I faxed her all the paperwork again, she said she received it, just wish we could get this started!!!

Dr. Frank Chae works with Kaiser patients in Denver...incredibly experienced, knowledgable, supportive; I can't speak highly enough of my experiences with him throughout this process.

Diane was mine. You can call your insurance and check requirements. Then let the coordinator know. That's what I did because mine thought I needed a 6 month diet when I didn't.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
