Freaking out a little - topped 700 calories today

Recommended Posts

For the first time since my surgery March 18th, I topped 700 calories - I ate 702! I know I needed to do this sooner or later, but it is freaking me out! I have been keeping it between 500 and 600 calories since surgery, and doing fine. 700 calories seems like it's so much!

Don't worry about it. You've done great so far and tomorrow is a new day!

You cannot sustain at only 700 calories forever, or you will disappear :) So it's okay and expected that you will increase your calories.

As an example I am 10 months out am between 900 - 1000 calories a day. I work out 4 days per week (burning average 500 calories) and am still losing about 2 pounds per week. I am trying to get to 1200 in the next 2 months.

If you are working out you need the calories to sustain your workout. It's okay and more than okay, important to increase your calories - increase them FIRST with Protein and then good carbs and good fats.

You're doing great!

700 calories. Listen to what ur saying. In any other world (besides the wls commmunity) 700 calories is starvation. Im making sure to get at least 800 to 900 calories a day, since sooner or later Ill be eating more and I don't want to gain because I went 100 calories more. Ur doing fine. Don't sweat the 2 calories. Ur wont gain because of 2 calories.

Good luck

I consistently eat more that 700 and I am only 3 weeks out. As someone with little funds I am stuck eating the same things over and over fr soft foods like cheeses and refried Beans which are higher in calories. I am still losing though! It beats the 2500-5000 I used to consume in a day.

I agree! It may be scary to up your calories because it's become your normal, but you really can't sustain 700 calories that for the long haul. Your body needs calories to be healthy. I'm 3 months out and I eat between 800 and 900 calories and I've been very consistantly losing. I really havent' even had a stall yet. I'm trying to slowly increase to 1000 calories especially since I've been exercising more now. My ultimate goal is to get to 1200 calories and stay there. That is a healthy, sustainable calorie goal for me. I don't want my body to get used to such low calories that I can't lose and/or maintain at a higher level. Because, lets face it, eventually my stomach will be healled and I'll have the capacity (and the need) for more calories.

I think for me the change in mindset is odd. I was used to dieting, trying to count calories and couldn't get below even 1600 consistently pre-op. Now I'm struggling some days to get in 800-900 calories. Everything has flip-flopped. It's so WEIRD, but in a good way!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
