Yasmina,

Congrats... that is awesome. You will love Nisrine she is banded and look at her.. hotty mchotty there and such a nice person. Tip from having done this write down your questions in advance so you have them all it is so easy to get in there and forget half of what you want to know about the band and the clinic etc.

Good luck

Heather,

seeing that you were just banded Jan 7th, how are you feeling now ? It has been two weeks, are there things that you are still not able to do ?

Forgive me as I get a little nutty !

this is what i was looking for, if anyone else has had the banding done quickly after the consult...

congrats!

i also had my surgery very quickly after my consult. about 2.5 weeks... the reason i went in for the consult, is because i had already decided i was doing it... and i was basically going in for approval on their part.

Yasmina,

as you noticed I am 5 years out.. but I was lucky I heal well and fast, I drove to Boston 4 days after surgery and then 2 days later had to fly across the country for work. I didn't need painkillers after I left the hospital (all the bandings were done in the hospital back then) So it depends... my advice take a pillow for the ride home from the clinic it helps with the bumps and the seatbelt. At two weeks out I was walking slowly on a treadmill and doing pretty much everything else too.

Move slowly and heal well, I can't say enough good things about Joffe and Yau as surgeons and their staff at the TLBC.. several are banded so they get where you are and where you are going which is so nice.

Good luck.

Heather

I was wondering, now that you are used to the band, can you still only eat certain things, or have you become so accustomed to it that that extra chewing have become second nature, and you really don't have to focus on it any more ?

I am being banded on Feb 2 and will fly to Egypt for 3 1/2 weeks on Feb 24. The doctor seems to thank I will not have any any problens, but I will still be on mushy for 6 more days. When you move on to solid food any advice. I plan on bring a few things with me just incase. :rolleyes

I would take it slowly... I like to mix my textures of food. So if I am eating salad I like to have greens, with different veges and some Protein like fish or chicken. It seems to sit better in my stomach when I mix the textures but you won't have to worry about that for a while.

The other thing I can say is I travelled during my post-op and don't worry about strange restaurant orders. I ordered a lot of french onion Soup minus the choose, bread and make it mostly broth. I checked out a lot of menu's on the net (only really works with chains) I am not sure what the standard food of egypt are but I would think you can get several variations of dips, vegetarion dishes etc. I would personally avoid rice as it is hard to chew enough at first and tends not to sit great with most people.

Remember you won't be filled so any restriction you have will just be natural restriction and you may find that you can transition without problems. Be very slow to go things like beef or solid meat. Try stews if you have to because meats softens with the cooking.

Good luck and keep asking your questions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
