Heather - Sorry. Maybe you should try and plain Protein and put it into low carb yogurt, or Soup. I just purchased Proais protein shot, 25 grams protein and 5 carbs, 0 fat and 120 calories - Rite Aid $2.00 grape flavored. Pretty good. Good luck. You will find a way. You will make it.

I have been very nervous about all this, my surgery is scheduled for 9/9.

So scary but the end result will be better than what we have all muddled through so far.

The dietitian told me the first 3-4 day are the worst of the 2 week diet that I'll be starting soon.

I'm planning on keeping my self busy with small things around the house to distract my frustration of a low calorie diet. I also have lots of YouTube videos book marked for helpful hints on how others made it through this. Along with probably tons of hours of reading things on this website.

You can do this, we all stumble pick yourself up & brush yourself off tomorrow is a new day! Good luck. :)

Your pre op sounds just like mine and my surgery date is 9/10:)

The pre op is the hardest. A good friend is sugar free popclicle. You can eat them until the cows come home. They also count towards hydration. But I promise you when you step on the scale for pre op you will have lost weight. I lost 15 lbs and I was only on it for 10 days because of my last md appt. and surgery date. I was done may 1st and I am down total 76 lbs. so keep going.

I'm almost through week 2. I have tried a couple of shakes and find the Premiere from costco to be the best. I like both the chocolate and the vanilla. Can you have fruit? I'm allowed 2 fruits a day and a blend frozen peaches or frozen strawberries in them and it's fine. Other than that, it's sugar free popsicles and jello..... it might be that docs do it differently, but in terms of the shakes, try Premiere. Hang in there. You're worth it.

Heather,

I don't know if you have a family or not but if you don't one suggestion is to clean your cabinets and refrigerator out if all the unhealthy no-no foods. ( donate to a mission or shelter) and stock what you will need for you next several weeks.

And, don't be hard on yourself. This journey will be about learning and struggles but the end result will be worth it.

This part is hard but its important.

I can honestly tell you that not a single one of my preop diet days was PERFECT and I am doing fine now but you gotta real it in a little with how you go about "cheating" if you are going to play that game.

Carbs are not the way to go if you MUST have something. My go-to cheat was ONE tablespoon of Peanut Butter. It's heavy enough to stick around in the stomach for a bit so I wasn't starving but it wasn't an insane amount of carbs/calories. Also the fat content helped me sleep I think. I have a really hard time going to bed hungry so thats what I had sometime before bed every day.

I am on day three of my liquid diet. I did okay the past two days, but tonight I broke down and cooed a can of light progresso beef pot roast Soup. I did drain part of the broth. I just literally could not take it any more. I will do better tomorrow. This is the hardest thing I have ever done, but I am determined to make this work. I am not going to beat myself up about my slip up tonight..... I am just going to do better tomorrow.

Gastric Sleeve Diets Guidelines and diets for the Gastric Sleeve Pre-op Diet 2 Weeks Before Surgery:

In the 2 weeks prior to surgery, you will be on a liquid diet. You will begin having 3 meals per day. This diet helps prepare the digestive tract for surgery, helps shrink your liver and reduces surgical risks.

Two meals per day will be liquid Protein supplements. FWLB recommends Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement or Premier Protein shakes (Premier may be purchased in our office). Men may need an extra one to get enough Protein.

Protein (based on your current BMI) does NOT change even when you get to your goal. This will be the amount you will need forever.

3rd meal will be Soup (any kind, and you may have everything that is in the soup). Campbell's, Healthy Choice, Progresso, homemade, etc. is fine, but stay away from heavy cream soups- like Tomato basil from La Madeline's.

You may have any of the following: Low fat cottage cheese, Tofu Diet V-8 fusion, etc. Iced tea (unsweetened or use artificial sweeteners) coffee (decaf only) Low fat Creamer, Skim or 1% milk, Soy milk sugar free popsicles Artificial sweetener sugar-free drinks only (Crystal Light, G-2 gatorade, Diet Powerade, etc.) sugar-free pudding Low fat yogurt (Greek yogurt has almost double the amount of protein per serving) Sugar-free Gelatin (no fruit added)

This was mine.. And I lost 20 lbs before surgery... Every office is VERY different in what they believe is best.... I was happy with soup because it wasn't sweet... But we had a list of things we could replace things with still staying low calorie and high protein.

My doctors office has me doing 4 protien shakes per day. I am also allowed sugar free Jello and popsicles. After eating the soup tonight I do feel much satisfied than I did the previous two nights. I am going to do my very best to follow my doctors orders, but I really appreciate your list of smart food choices in case I need other options. Thanks :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
