AmBeR09 60 Posted August 19, 2013 I just got a phone call that they changed my surgery date from Sept 16 to Sept 11. After seeing a god awful picture I was tagged in on Facebook this morning I was pretty thrilled. My only worry is I am part of a wedding party on Sept. 7th and the rehearsal dinner on Sept. 6th. I obviously cannot bail which is what I would normally do if I knew that there was a conflict. But I'm not sure what I do in this situation or how to make the best of it? No one except my husband will know about the pre op diet, not even the bride and groom. Have any of you experienced this kind of situation and what do you do!! kortolano 100 Posted August 19, 2013 my pre op diet was two Protein Shakes and a low carb dinner. I did not have to do full liquids until three days before surgery. I am not sure what your pre op diet is, but it seems to me that everyone's is different. So my suggestion to you is go to the wedding and the dinner have fun don't go over board. Try to leave the carbs alone. Good luck! 1 TES reacted to this
TES 858 Posted August 19, 2013 congrats on getting an earlier surgery date! What is your concern over the dinner and wedding--what you will eat? Are you on a special pre-op diet? I find at things like this, no one really pays attention to what others are doing. I'm sure that you can finesse it and stay true to your plan. Just get out on the dance floor. Plus it will be nice to have the wedding to keep you busy while you are anticipating the surgery. Enjoy!! 2 Dannipo and TwinsMama reacted to this
AmBeR09 60 Posted August 19, 2013 Thanks!! My diet is a 10 day liver reduction diet, Protein Shakes for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, only liquids in between. 1 TES reacted to this
TwinsMama 483 Posted August 19, 2013 See if someone else you know (not in the wedding party) can bring your shake with you. The thing I find really funny is that for many of us we spent so long dieting that we forget to use that as an excuse. When I traveled while I was on my 2 week pre-op diet, I just told people, I couldn't eat certain things because I was on a diet. That was the truth and since people knew I was having surgery, they didn't think anything of it. Not sure if you've ever been on a diet and told anyone...but if you have, just say that and sip away. Plus, most people I know (even thin ones) tend to diet around the time they are in a wedding. I doubt anyone thinks twice. 1 TES reacted to this
AmBeR09 60 Posted August 19, 2013 That's great advice. Thanks so much!! Only the bride knows about the surgery but nothing too deep into detail!
miss_cee85 160 Posted August 19, 2013 I was almost 1-week into my pre-op diet when I went to a going away celebration for a co-worker at a bar. Everyone at the office assumed that I was on a strict veggie/shake diet. But, some didn't believe I was disciplined (or crazy) enough to bring my Protein shake to the bar. Fooled them! Hehe I got through it. You'll do fine!!! Good luck! :-) 1 AmBeR09 reacted to this
AmBeR09 60 Posted August 20, 2013 I think I'd be less nervous if people knew and understood. I am horrible at dodging the bullet but obviously cannot with being part of the wedding. We have a family reunion to go to less then a week after surgery and one a week and a half after surgery. I figured the don't feel good approach or dieting thing may be easier to pull off then. I asked my husband if I should tell my father in law and he feels the same as I, its really no ones business and my choice and time to be happy. The world is so full of hypocrites. That's also why I have really kept it to myself minus a few close family members and coworkers. I love all of your inputs!
nervousnelly 24 Posted August 20, 2013 I did I am still in pre-op and told my friends my ulcer was acting up. I was allowed chicken so I had that and water..... Wedding was not as fun as usual but I made it through. Keep busy during the cocktail hour! 1 AmBeR09 reacted to this
chapasmamita 12 Posted August 20, 2013 I had NO pre op diet except nothing to eat or drink from midnight before surgery. So I say eat light, u don't want to mess w your weight loss so far. Keep your business to yourself if you don't want everyone to know because at the end of the day it is your choice. Enjoy yourself! 1 AmBeR09 reacted to this
