Bredred 45 Posted August 19, 2013 I was wondering what various nutritionists and surgeons have said about Protein requirements. I'm 7 weeks out today and am on a regular diet. My nut said we should be getting between 60 and 80 grams a day. She said for a smaller woman, the goal is closer to 60. I'm 5'3" and a woman. I usually hit between 60 and 70 grams a day, without any supplementation. The reason I ask is because it seems like lots of people have higher requirements. Beach Lover 1,084 Posted August 19, 2013 I usually get between 70-80 a day. I am still using Protein Drinks otherwise it wouldn't happen.
CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted August 19, 2013 Conventional wisdom is that 60 is the minimum. The recommendations have changed - even my surgical practice which used 60 guideline - my doc told me at my 18 month post op that there is evidence that 80g or more is ideal for maintenance. But, early on, you can't consume much so just do the best you can. What you will find is if you always focus on Protein, you just don't have room for much else and you lose better. Pinky Green 260 Posted August 19, 2013 I was told 60-80 grams of Protein and was told only to avoid sugar and to keep the fat to about 5 grams per serving. I don't track anything but protein. Oh and I'm 5' tall.
