Can you drink gatorade post op?

Recommended Posts

ive seen a lot of people saying really good things about these kinds of drinks. I dont know exactly what g2 is so I would suggest sugar free and calorie free but I have heard they can help you feel lots better i plan on drinking some Powerade 0 to see if i can shake this headache.

I am 10 weeks post op and still use it on occasion especially if it is really hot out and I am going to be outside. I drink the G2.

I have the small bottles of G2, 12 ounces, 30 calories, 7g sugar (seems like a lot of sugar for post op)......some days I drink 1/2 of a bottle that's been diluted with an equal amount of water.................but was under the impression that's only while on liquids....once on real food, that will be a thing of the past. Good luck!

Yup - G2 was a favorite after surgery. Still enjoy it if it's all I can find at a convenience store or something. No Protein in it, but a lower calorie option for sleevers.

I love G2 - it was recommended to me for post-op by my surgeon. I especially love the G2 natural when I can find it.

I have always disliked drinks like G2, but after surgery my husband bought me some so I wouldn't get dehydrated, and I sort of craved it. I would dilute it. Now at over 6 months post op it doesn't really appeal to me anymore, but it was a great option when I was on full liquids. My surgeon recommends it for that phase.

One of the things I stopped doing before surgery and have so far been able to keep up and I think I have benefitted greatly from doing so is no soda, at all, sugar no sugar - nada.

Another is avoiding processed drinks. I just don't do them.

May I recommend you try a 2 liter container, chop up 2 lemons, several thin slices of cucumber and rough chop about a half cup of mint. let it set for at least 4- hours in the fridge. It's a refreshing burst of detox.

I drink the low-cal Gatorade every day. It's 75 calories for the 32 oz bottle. I drink it because I can't get my fluids in otherwise! I sometimes drink the zero cal Powerade but I don't prefer it. I find it too sweet.

G2 was recommended by my surgeon as well. I like it because it has electrolytes, when I don't drink it my legs start to cramp up. Plus, Water makes me feel sick and the G2 doesn't.

I too drink G2 when it is needed but I have also started drinking Smart Water because it has the electrolytes in it. Better than dumb water!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
