How important is it to eat

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 8/16. Since then things are good but I have noticed I have absolutely no desire of any sorts for food. I pretty much start each day already feeling like I am full. I am drinking lots of Water and I ate a popsicle two days in a row. I have had one Protein Shake since I got home, I guess I want to know how much it matters if I eat. Can I really eat too little? My food plan says 3 Protein Shakes and 3 other meals a day but it doesnt say that I have to eat that much. I am making my follow up appointment and asking the nutritionist too, I guess I am just wondering how other people have been. I have seen some people talking about how they have been able to eat things like potatoes and Beans while on clears, and Im perplexed because food, Protein shakes, Soup, it is all unappealing to me I am so full all the time. Do you think it matters if I only get in like a protein shake and a popsicle a day?

You can eat too much. Starvation IS a word. Get the Protein in, you need that to heal. You can delay on the others.

You have to get all your protein in. Your body needs this since you aren't on food. I was concerned what would happen if I didn't, they said your body won't heal properly, your hair will fall out, etc. You will know when you are full, try and get as much in right now as you can and stay hydrated...NO, you aren't hungry, but you have to remind yourself to get in what you need at this very moment. Then when you move to foods you will KNOW when you are full, sometimes by the 2nd bite, but you will know!

You're post op Day 3... I would concentrate on your liquids, then Protein at this point. You will slowly work your way up to the protein requirements.

My nutritionist said Water first Protein second. You don't want to get dehydrated most importantly, but you want to be focusing on trying the Protein Shakes. I'm supposed to do 1-2oz of protein on the hour and 1-2oz of water every 15 minutes (15-30-45)

Just got off the phone with my nutritionist and she said I am expected to drink 24 oz of Protein Shakes and 3 small meals daily in addition to 64 oz of Water and it is not a maximum amount. I have decided she is insane. I am almost finished with my first Protein Shake of the day and I have literally been forcing myself to drink this and having tons of baby burps after every sip. Its funny when I completely ignored the food they brought me in the hospital no one seemed to care. Its also hilarious that I am having such a hard time getting in this much liquid as pre-surgery I really dont think my stomach had any limitations when it came to food or liquid. I guess I dont feel full, because I always feel full. I mean I dont feel anymore full than normal, I dont feel a different kind of full after drinking the Protein shake, but I did start at 8 this morning so maybe Im not drinking it quickly enough to get the full feeling, although I really dont want to be anymore full than I am. Just complaining my face off before I go drink all the protein shakes in the world, thanks for listening.

You might want to check out my blog here which details our first 8 days. It was 5 days before we were able to get enough Protein and Water. Just keep doing what you can, and each day, you will find you can do more. Water first, protein second right now. Stay hydrated. Dehydration is the primary reason why VSG's get re-admitted to the hospital.

I used to get up at 6 am and start drinking. I often stayed up late to fulfill my requirements. It is important and all you need to worry about right now. I am 8 weeks PO now and it is all a distant memory! This too shall pass and you will be amazed when you can drink stuff almost normal in a few short weeks! Keep sipping !!!

Yes, it is essential that you get your protein and Water in daily. You can eat too little. The reason you want to eat is because you want to maintain the muscle mass you have. If your body doesn't get the protein it needs, then it will start to break down the muscles in your body. Through this weight loss process mostly everyone will lose muscle, but getting enough protein and calories in will help to minimize this. It is extremely difficult for someone not to lose any muscle...especially if you are a female, but you want to do what you can. You also want to get those things in to try and prevent hair loss as much as possible.

Another concern is slowing of the metabolism. I wasn't very hungry the first few months after my surgery either. My surgeon said he thought it was because I was in ketosis. I had to really work hard to get my calories anywhere above 600 calories. I worked very had to get my calories to 1000 by the time I was 4 months and it worked for me. I hit one stall in the very beginning.

Try as much as you can to get your protein in.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
