Hi Chubbola, I am a self pay and was going to have surgery in Green Bay but had a harder time coming up with $17,700 than I thought I would. Anyhow I am now planning on traveling to Denver to Dr. Kirshenbaum, he charges $10,000. I will then need to travel to Madison for fills. I have $5,000 together and hope our tax refund is big! Sunnysea

I to am hopfully going to denver have you already lined on somebody in madison for sure? Looking for a name etc. so I don't have to jump though all of the hoops. I'm from the dells

I am from Central Wisconsin and was banded on 1/25/07 by Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver. Cost was $9950.00, no hidden fees. Dr. K is AWESOME! Very nice! The surgery went extremely wellWe flew to Denver out of Wausau (through O'Hare) and stayed at the best Western Gateway Inn and Suites right near Dr. K's office in Aurora. The room was very reasonable. I told them I was having surgery and they gave me a handicapped room on the first floor. It was very convienent</p>

Hi Terry R, Shesha just answered your question, I have been getting all of my info from her posts. I have also been in touch with Dr. Kirshenbaums office now and wish I had the money. When I finally get banded it will be a long drive for my fills, but I won't let that hold me back. Keep us posted on when your surgery will be. Good Luck, Sunnysea:)

Hi, I'm from Oconomowoc.

I really want to have this done, have been on yoyo diets my whole life. Haven't really looked in a mirror to closely until Saturday. What a sight

My question to anyone, what do you think about Mexico? It looks like I will be a self pay. I keep reading how good they are there, my concern is the fill. Apparently the drs. here do not want to touch you if you had it done in Mexico.

Your help is appreciated.

Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver did my surgery. He only charges $9950.00 so people have an option in the states that is comparable to the cheaper cost in Mexico. He was fantastic! Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello from West Allis/Milwaukee

I'm in the very beginning stages and have just scheduled to attend a seminar at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital. Their program is a combined program with the Bariatric Institute of WI.

I tried to get in but it was full, I had to schedule to attend the one for March 22nd. Please let me know how it goes and keep me posted on your progress. Your the closest person to me locally and progressivly so maybe we can be lap band buddies.

Well, I was told they are filled, but people do not show and if I don't mind maybe standing. So I'm going and just tell them they forgot to register me. I have my first appointment with my Dr. next Tuesday.

The next seminar is at Waukeha Hospital next Wed.

I thought it would be better to go through the seminar before seeing the Dr.

I'm still undecided between the band and bypass. My friend had a bypass and she is a nurse. She doesn't frrl the bands are very succesful. Then there is my GP Dr. and he says go for the band.

I hope the seminar will help me make up my mind. I have read so much on both, that I am very confused.

Do you have any thoughts?

What Dr do you have an appt with and what hospital or center is he with? I found out about the seminar at Elmbrook through the Bariatric Institute of Wisconsin. Im not even considering gastric bypass, that just scares me to death. The lap band appeals to me most because its not permanent. I myself would prefer to try the less drastic of the 2. With the options of fills and unfills it just seems like its more adjustable and flexible to make you more comfortable. With GB its just once and done and thats what you have, there is no tweeking with it. Just my feelings, I understand you may feel differently. Tell me though which doctor you made an appointment with and where he is at. Thanks :)

I am going to Dr. K for my first fill in March. After that, I plan to go to Madison. Flying to Denver isn't real feasible (especially from Wausau - way to much $$)!

Have been busy and no time to reply. Went to the seminar and there were plenty of empty seats. I'm glad I went. They had an overhead showing pictures of what is done with each different procedure. Then there was a guest speaker, someone who had it done 2 years ago, he had the bypass. He talked about himself and took questions.

What everybody says this is not the answer it's a tool, you really have to get your mind set, that it's for life, regardless which way you go.

They did mention that undoing the band is not as easy as one may think, but yes it's reversable.

I'm leaning towards permanent. I have heard the band is slower weight loss and not as succesful. To tell you the truth, I really don't know. I'm hoping the dr. will help me out. I have Dr. Burhop.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
