No I had a family (non supporter) ask about it so I wanted comments.

I've done it a couple of times, but only because I was legitimately hungry! It's not something I think about doing everyday.

I followed a lady on her journey as she had a blog and videos....A year after her surgery she was still putting peanut M&M's in her mouth and spitting them out after she chewed them....She never ever said she stopped the habit......

I thought that it defeated the purpose of the program...but she is slim and fit now and so the results happened for her anyway....Not my thing for sure, I only spit things out that taste awful to me which I am always surprised about since I ate them before surgery....

So I guess it happens..If you want to not use the tool properly there is always a way....But why? Why go through all of this work and life changing and learning to deal with the issues that caused this to happen to you and do that......Seems to me that she was not ready to deal with what it would take to make the changes....

That is how I see it......

.

I chewed a roll and spit it out on my 4th week of liquids. I really wanted to chew something! It made my jaw muscles get tired of chewing and really didn't taste that good, so I haven't bothered since. I start purees tomorrow and am excited about having the varied taste of real food again. That said, I am thrilled with the results of my surgery so far and wonder if the "3rd week stall" is related to beginning food again.

Laura-Ven posted a good thread in rants & raves about the dangers of chewing and spitting food. It has a lot of good info about the dangers of chewing and spitting.

I'm on my phone, so can't post a link to it.

I read where someone had done it, and I got so mad----why go through this process and mess it up like that.....I couldn't understand.

a few days later I did it once....not due to hunger, the need to chew nor head hunger......I was making dinner for my brother in law.....and wanted to make sure it was good.....so I took a single bite, and spit it out....rinsed, rinsed, rinsed out my mouth to make sure to little bits were still in there, then brushed just to make sure.....I felt so stupid for even doing this, but I couldn't let it go out of my house w/o knowing it was edible (it called for wine, and after pouring in the wine, I wasn't sure when it was opened or if it had gone bad)

But I would not advise it, that's for sure....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
