Anybody work 3 - 11:30 PM?

Recommended Posts

I'm a Nurse, and I work 3-11:30 PM. I was just sleeved two and a half weeks ago. I'm still on liquids, but I will start on soft foods next Saturday. Before surgery, my problem was eating late at night and then going to bed. Now because of the surgery I no longer will be able to eat late at night because of the reflux. That is a good thing. Late night eating will be my first bad habit to change. My question is, how do people working evening shift manage meals? I only get a 1/2 hour for dinner. With the new sleeve I have to eat slowly. I start back to work tomorrow. This week it's easy, but what happens next week when I start eating soft foods? I was thinking I'd eat Breakfast when I get up, dinner before I go to work, and something quick and easy like tuna or egg salad, cheese and ham or turkey slices, and then drink a shake later before I get off. I'm just hoping I can get all my fluids and Protein in on the evenings I work. Any tips from eve shift workers? Thanks.

My nut advised me if i could take a bite, then go about my business, then another...but under no circumstances to skip meals or planned Snacks. I found out the hard way when i went back to work that i couldn't put off eating because i needed the "fuel" to keep going. Another trick, eat slowly but only what you can in 15 min or 20 at the mmost and then stop. You'll realize you are full...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
