Sleeve after bypass

Recommended Posts

Yeah, go ahead, I'm all wrong and your endless pointless support will certainly make her prevail. Unless I missed something, she's ALREADY had bypass. So unless your support for encouraging more surgery involves some new miraculous procedure as yet unknown by the medical community........Then advising her to attempt further risk is just irresponsible. According to her sister, she's not even looking for additional surgery. So this entire volley is moot anyway. The original question by the OP has already been answered. Besides, Kindle said it best in the post above. So you can all remove your rose colored glasses now.

Oh, and additionally.....in response to the the forum being about support. Seeing as this is a Vertical Sleeve forum.......Unless there is someone on here responding to her that has had gastric bypass, my not yet having the sleeve is no different than any of those that have.

I do however, wish her the best .

All I will say in reply to this is that bariatric surgery will never be the easy way out!!!

I had so many ideas of how things would be post op when I was pre op and none of my thoughts were correct.

You will never know the struggle after having a bariatric procedure until you have been through it.

You haven't had the surgery so you have never struggled or failed or gotten off track.

Until, you go through the surgery and make no mistakes and follow the plan to a T for the rest of your life you have no room to judge or put anyone else down.

My friends mum had the sleeve done about 3 months ago. She had a bypass done 15 years ago and was slowly dying from it. So the hooked her stomach back up and sleeved it. This is in Australia. So yes it can be done. And she hasn't regained her weight

Look at all the people who have had lapband, didn't do well and revised it to a sleeve and are doing great! Think of those who had the sleeve, revised it to a switch and are losing again. Perhaps I do have rose colored glasses but at least I am able to hope for and offer support for someone who may benefit from another procedure or more medical help.

Don't forget. Questions aren't just answered for the OP. They are also answered for those who are lurking, researching, reading, and looking for answers to questions they have not thought to ask or afraid to because of people who are so negative.

Best of luck to you, too!

Geez, Recycled, Do your research before making such arrogant, judgemental comments. There IS a "miraculous" procedure that IS known by the medical community that has been shown to be more effective at weight loss that bypass. (Guess you didnt get the memo) It's called duodenal switch. Not to mention the advancements in emotional and nutritional support she may not have had over the last 17 years.

Then why are you here? This whole exchange started because you made an insensitive comment and I called you out on it. I thought perhaps I could provide a different point of view that might cause you to at least rethink your judgement of others.

My mistake...

Nobody is whining, but you sure do sound hostile. ;)

Are you having a bad day?

Nope, my day is fine. But rest assured, if you think support is, always telling people everything they want to hear.........their day won't be.

*Their.

And no, I don't always tell people what they want to hear. In fact, I'm quite bitchy at times. That said, I support people who want to lose weight, and taking away hope before they even start the process (even if it is for a second time) will not help anyone. Now if she was here, sleeved again and making stupid decisions and asking for someone to validate those decisions, I'd jump all over that. I've done it before, I will do it again and I will not apologize for it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
