Nervous and 2nd guessing

Recommended Posts

The after is not bad, in fact it gets a little easier each day. At first your belly will be sore and you may have nausea. You will have gas pressure in your chest. By the third or fourth day this will be behind you more or less. Then the post op diet will be the next hurdle. It will be challenging to get all your Protein in, just pace yourself and take it ounce by ounce. By 5 or 6 weeks out you will feel like yourself, only better and thinner. Good luck!

I think we all feel this way. I'm scheduled for Aug. 22 and it is really hitting home how much this is going to change my life and the way I deal with life. In my down moments, I remember all the reasons why I made this decision. I remember that this is not a cosmetic procedure but one to save my life. The latest research says that 1 in 5 obese people die premature deaths.

I also remind myself that I did not enter this decision lightly. I thought long and hard about the pros and cons and I decided it was the right choice for me. I cannot allow my emotions to make me second guess my decision all the time. It will absolutely exhaust me to do that. And I'm exhausted enough already during this pre-op diet lol.

Best of luck to you!

Angela

Thank you for the encouragement. Still head vs health. My head says I'm not that obese. I dont have any comorbidity. I have lived my whole life over weight and at 35 both my parents has passed away from major health issues. I'm trying to do what I can to live healthy because I can't change my genetics. I have a son who I want to see achieve great things . I miss my mom and dad so much and I grieve the time he ( my son) has lost with them. So I'm in it to get healthy and live a healthy lifestyle. Praying my nerves don't get the best of me.

I feel the same as you. I'm 35 and have been up and down my whole life. Never maintaining my weightloss for more than a couple months. I have two kids 6 and 1. I also want to see them achieve great things. I do not have any comorbidities at the moment, but I know that wont last for long if I do not change my weight (currently 257, 5'1"). There is diabetes and high blood pressure in my family. We are brave to make this decision and for me it was finally realizing that I could not sustain the weightloss on my own. I need the sleeve to keep me on track long term. My surgery is 8/29. I'm nervous, but I know I need to do this if not for me for my children. Good luck to you!!

You definitely aren't alone. I saw an ad for Bagels and cream cheese earlier and mourned the cream cheese lmao. I was like OMG pull it together. I will come off soft foods 2 days before thanksgiving. I'm already scared. I keep telling myself: I will eventually incorporate foods back into my life in a more effective and healthful way. I will someday have a bagel and cream cheese again but it will be half of a whole grain bagel with a couple teaspoons of low fat cream cheese and it will be OK. I have lived 14-15 years of food funerals. I have gorged myself to nausea. I have ate because it was there and not because I was hungry. I have risked my life and the livelihood of my child for my addiction. It's time to put me first, it's time to reach for the stars and actually reach them. We got this. It won't be easy but we can do this.

LadyBugg, it may be helpful to attend a support support group that includes both pre-op and post-op patients where you can have a one on one with people who have been there....another thing that might help if you haven't done it already is writing down your thoughts on the pros and cons of surgery

Ladystl.....good luck today!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
